IB HLs: MATH, PHYSICS & CHEMISTRY / Suicide or Doable?

Do you think its possible to get really great (6 or 7) on those courses?

Math HL is quite possibly the hardest exam, but yes theoretically, it’s doable. I’m taking Physics SL , Math HL, Chem HL, because we don’t have Physics HL.

You’re borderline on suicide though. I take 5 HLs next year.

FIVE? i thought the maximum was 4? O: what courses are you taking?
you’re a junior right?

Regardless, ubcrazy. Haha, get it? Get it? :D

So, are you going to major in chemical physics in college then?

Lots of people do it in my school. T hey’re stressing a lot and they’re mostly considered to be the “smart” kids but it’s definitely doable.

ha. I laugh at limits.

I have

Math HL
Chem HL
English HL
History HL
Bio HL(Wish it was physics HL, but we don’t have it)
CS SL(doing HL senior yr, total will be 6)
Physics I(Have to take before SL)

it’s 4 HLs at my school for diploma.

What is IB Math HL? Why are a lot of people saying that it’s REALLY hard? My school offers AP, so I’m really interested about this IB thing especially in Math. What does it cover?

I’m in Math HL and Chem HL. I hvnt read the other responses, but I don’t think either is too bad. It’s just scattered, which is what makes this hard.

IB Math HL, the hardest IB Math bar IB further Mathematics SL.

It goes into a large range of topics including what would be both calc ab and calc bc and numerous other math topics.

MITHopeful - are you sure that’s possible?

HL classes, by definition, last two years, so how can you take 5 HL exams at the end of your junior year? Everyone I’ve ever known in IB has always taken HL exams at the end of senior year.

Anyway, to the OP - IB Math, Physics, and Chemistry are all pretty math-heavy. If you’re confident in your math skills and are a math/science person (I’m assuming so), they should be pretty doable. IB Math is arguably the hardest IB Exam (and at my school, IB Physics is one of the harder classes too), but if you have the time to study and the genuine interest in the subjects, you should be able to do it. The difficulty/workload of IB classes generally depends on the school and teacher, so you should ask people who have taken the classes at your school if you can. That will probably give you a better idea than anything else.

Yes, It is. I’m not doing diploma, so I’m going to challenge myself with the hardest classes possible. And it won’t be at the end of my junior year, End of my senior year. I’m actually a sophomore, who learned a lot from my IB coordinator.

Well I kinda have to take Chemistry and Physics at HL… my last one I could choose between Math, English and History.

Well what do you want to work on in college, any fields of interests?

If this was me I’d take Math, Physics and Chemistry HL in a heartbeat, but it differs per person.

Mm. Physics HL isn’t too bad, in my opinion. The AP Physics curricula go far deeper into their respective subjects than does the IB. It’s really breadth-based, to the point where a lot of kids at my school just learn all the IB material in the 2 weeks before the exam and 6 it. (Note: No one at my school 7s anything except native speakers 7ing their SL language, since we focus on APs rather than IBs).

Math on the other hand is generally known as killer. I’m really excited for the class next year personally, but you apparently have to put in an hour or so a day and generally have to be diligent about doing homework and whatnot.

Does anyone know about Further Math? They’re trying to offer it next year at our school, and to my knowledge, it is essentially just all the HL options, right?

It’s all the HL options and more. So yeah. You have to take it with HL 2 though.

the good thing is that at my school we choose our HLs in our senior year, meaning that i have junior year to see if math HL is doable for me. we don’t have further mathematics though, although i’ve heard about the course.

bumping…

What’s the big deal about the Math HL test? Why are most people freaking out about it? Is it like AIME kind of thing?
