<p>hi. i'd like to know your thoughts on this. Is IB math studies comparable to honors precalculus?
I know it doesn't offer credit towards advancement in the way precal does, but how similar is math studies material to precalculus material? Which is more difficult, and to what degree?<br>
The fact that a student would have to take precal even though he's already gone through math studies in order to get into calc tells me that math studies may not count for as much.</p>
<p>Math Studies is the easiest of all the IB Maths you can take. Most universities don't offer credit for it.
If you have a choice, and don't necessarily like math, I'd take Math Methods. If you want a lot of Math... take HL. Then, if you are still not satisfied, take the mother of IB Math... Further Maths.
But yeah, don't take Studies. It's not worth it.</p>

<p>No idea if it helps, cause I have no idea what precal is... we have different classes here... I suppose precal would be like Math 30, because Math 31 (highest other than IB) is calculus. So I guess it would help to some extent... depending on what option your class does for the IB exam. I've heard the Stats option is interesting.

<p>I'll you what I as a pre-calc student study (or will study) and you can compare. solving equations and inequalities, continuity, complex numbers, logarithims, exponentials, trigonometry, vectors, polar and parametric equations, conics, sequences, series, and matrices. My school doesn't have honors math courses (besides ap calc) so that's just a reg. class.</p>
