So it’s like I’m taking Pre-Calc right now as a sophomore. I’m sort of interested in economics and statistics right now. I have two options:

Take IB Math HL and repeat some of the material.

Take AP Calc and self study AP Stats. My GC said I could earn school credit online if I could show her the proof.

Which one?

I'm an IB Math HL student, and I'd only recommend it over AP Calc BC if your teacher is doing the Further Statistics or Series & Differential Equations options, because the former is, well, lots of stats (I am almost positive that it is of AP Stat standard), and the latter makes up for most of the gap in Calculus between the HL Core and AP Calc BC (but also has a fair bit of Statistics in the Core). These two options give you a bunch of Calc/Stats, and with a bit of studying (less than what you'd have to do if you did BC Calc and self-studied Stat from scratch) you'd be at AP standard for both courses. I personally prefer IB Math because it's a broader survey of Math, but I really would only suggest it if your teacher's doing one of the two options I mentioned above.

If you are truly interested in math and want to go on a lot further i would tell you to go to Calc BC...there are things like Epsilon Delta Proofs and other thing i heard you dont learn in HL that are fairly important.

not 100% sure though...pure hearsay

I am kind of in the same situation. Next year my school is going to offer the IB Diploma program for the first time. I am taking Algebra 2 Honors right now as a sophomore, and I can't decide what to do next year. I can either take Trig. Honors and Pre-calc. Honors or IB Math 1 (Only SL will be offered) as a junior. Senior year I would take AP Calc. BC or IB Math 2 (Again only SL will be offered). If I take the IB route in math, I am not sure that I will go as far as AP Calc. BC. I currently have a high A in Algebra 2 Honors, and I want to take the most challenging math classes available. Any input would be appreciated.

aisgzdavinci, I am not sure how IB Math HL compares with AP Calc, so I would suggest asking the IB teacher and the AP teacher to give you an overview of their classes.

Only take IB math, if you want the IB diploma.

If not, take AP math because you can go ahead and take a math course without reviewing much Pre Cal.

Problem is that after I take the Calc BC exam next year, there's no more math offered at my school. That means I gotta self study AP stats online in order to get credit at my school. Is that a good idea?
