It's scheduling week again and our school just received IB courses. Looking through the IB brochure, I found a class call IB Math Studies SL. I was originally obligated to take PreCalc, as i'm currently taking Algebra II. Although I can take IB Math Studies, I have to pick between those two. I really think my major is going to be in some type of engineering, sooo math is playing a big part. I'm already set to take A.P Stats. So otherwise, will I get more out of Math Studies or PreCalc?

IB Math Studies is a joke. It's the lowest form of IB math. Personally, I would gofor IB math only if it had a higher weighted GPA. Otherwise, I would take precalc.

thanks for the input, I'm really unsure about this IB math since, I really do need some form of PreCalc. There is IB Math SL but it requires Honors PreCalc which I don't have. With the research I'm doing, it seems that the IB Math Studies includes stats, which again I'm already taking A.P stats. Otherwise, I really would only take the IB course because it might look better on my transcript? Would you say IB Math Studies looks better than regular PreCalc?

o and our grades are not weighted, yea...pretty much sucks..

I would take IB Math SL and take Precalc honors. Are you a sophomore or junior? AP Statistics is a smart move, imo. At my school, only 2 people take AP Statistics, the seniors who took IB Math Studies and the sophomores who either took alg. 2 or precalc freshman year. Therefore, you should be fine in stats. If you want hard math, coose precalc. I fyou want moderate/boderline easy math, choose IB Math Studies.

Senior next year, as right now algebra II has been a breeze, as with the past algebra courses I took. Though I didn't have enough room for Algebra II/Precalc Block math this year. I am not able to take Honors PreCalc as I wasn't in past H classes for math. I'm really just trying to make my transcript as strong as possible, as I really did bad freshman year. I might just go on with PreCalc, I hope its the right move. I spoke to the teacher who is teaching the IB course and he recommended to take the IB Math Studies but was unsure if that really whats the correct choice (Next year is the first year for IB)

Yea, IB Math Studies is a huge joke, so if you take it you can be sure that you won't have to stress over math.

My school just got this IB program thing which only 9th and 10th graders can do . Is it harder than the AP courses? I mean I won't be able to take it anyway since I am Junior now but just wondering if it will be.

if you want to study engineering you should get into IB Math HL...it is really hard but it would help you a lot... i was on IB last year , i took HL and i got a 6 :D

I took precalc last year, had to get another SL in so I took IB Math Studies this year. Both seem to be very easy, IB Math Studies much more logic based as of now, so it's even easier. If IB Math Studies allows you to get the diploma as it is for me, do that, otherwise take precalc.
