IB Scores

Hi all,

a question on behalf of a friend. Does anyone here know what sort of IB scores are required for the top twenty or so LACs and universities in the US?

Thanks.

Andi,
For admittance or credit/placement?
My senior daughter will be taking IB exams the whole month of May (unbelievably rigorous exam schedule  ). However, admittance decisions have already been made. As far as credit/placement, each school has their own policy, usually outlined somewhere on their websites.

Hi audio,

Thanks for your response. My friend's S is in the UK, the equivalent of a junior in HS. He goes to a highly competitive school that doesn't rank the kids. She is wondering what the US schools are looking for as far as admissions and how they would evaluate her son.

Is your d in a US IB program? Good luck to her in May. It sounds very intense!!!! Interesting that she has already been accepted? How did they assess her?

andi,

Yes, she is in a US based IB diploma program. I don't know how it works for int'ls, but her school gives semester grades, class ranks, etc. They were also required to take the equivalent AP tests as they went along, but ALL of their IB subject tests are at the end of her senior year. There have also been ongoing assessments and extended essays, not sure how they play into it. Everyone in her class has already heard college decisions, just like any other senior.

Thanks again audiophile! I appreciate the feedback.

Internationally, I wouldn't know, but for US students, IB tests have little or nothing to do with college admittance. All of my friends have been accepted to uni's and have yet to take their final four tests; they may or may not receive credit for these classes in college depending on their scores. Admittance is usually based on SAT/ACT scores, grades, class rank, etc. I know some UK uni's require a minimum of 38 or something to attend, but that doesn't seem to apply here. I would check into the specific's schools international admissions department for a better answer.
