Ice in dorms?

I'm making an air conditioner, but to run effectively I will need Ice. Are there Ice machines, or any other way to get ice in the dorms?

At least in all of the dorms I’ve been in, there are no ice machines. Why are you making an air conditioner, might I ask?

afaik the only place to get ice is in bag form at entropy.

I’m making an air conditioner for the hot month in the beginning of the semester.

And thanks, I’ll have to buy it from Entropy I guess. Or I could just buy it from a convenient store for cheap.

Like I looked at the virtual tour of Donner and the kitchen looks like it has a refrigerator/freezer so I guess I could make ice. Or I could make it in my microfridge.

Are you just planning on having a fan blow over some ice?

Also, enjoy nightly trips to Entropy to pay $5 a bag for ice or whatever.

Yeah, you may just want to make do with a couple of fans - it’s really only the first week or so that the weather is obnoxiously hot, and your ice is going to be melted pretty quickly whether it’s inside or out. :(

Yeah, RacinReaver and completelykate pretty much said what I was thinking…I mean, it’s not that bad (and I say this as someone who came from Northern California and had never really dealt with heat or humidity), and it really is for a super short amount of time.

Also, you’ll be in classes most of the day, and you don’t really have to be in your room except for when you’re sleeping, in which case a) it will be a little cooler outside, and b) a fan will do just fine.

No, it is a closed, insulated container filled with ice water that pumps the water through copper tubing around the fan using a small aquarium pump. The ice actually lasts most of the day.

And obviously I won’t be running it while I’m in class.

I’ll just bring ice trays. Thanks for the responses.

And fans only go so far.

Physicsdude, I am not sure what your goal is. In IS Pennsylvania. You will be fine for that one week without AC.
If your goal is to look cool by having a homemade air conditioner, you should at least make it an original design or something. Being able to read Instructables.com is not all that impressive.
Fans will be more than enough in Pennsylvania weather!

The funny thing is, I will probably be given a room with AC because of allergies. heh

Ok, JohnFreeman. I don’t know where to start.

First of all, I live less than two hours away from pittsburgh. Therefore, I would say the weather is comparable. And it stays hot here through october many times. I would also like to mention that living in an upper floor dorm room, with a lot of people in closed spaces, tends to raise the temperature substantially.

Are you serious? Yeah, I thought I would look BADASS with a redneck air conditioner at a top ten engineering school.

Sorry I hate being hot guys.

What allergies do you have?

The fact that JohnFreeman made an account just to make such a senseless post should tell you not to bother responding. lol.
