iClickers

So I see that one of my spring classes (Phys 151) requires buying an iClicker. For those of you who've had classes that used them, how has that worked out? I gather they're used mostly for in-class quizzes? From wider searches it appears that people at other schools haven't thought too highly of them. Are they used in a lot of classes at CSULB?

I’m a high school senior, but I’m taking a general chemistry class at a different CSU that uses the iClicker. My professor uses them during lecture to make sure everyone is paying attention. He’ll have notes on the screen then a clicker question or two related to the notes will pop up. When everyone has finished (or when he has decided we have all had enough time) he brings up a window that shows how many people selected each answer and he can carry out the discussion from there, depending on if the majority of the class got the answer right or wrong. He uses it as a participation grade - as long as you get at least 75% of the clicker questions correct, you will receive an A for your “clicker participation” grade. This is just my experience at a different CSU campus though. I’m not sure how the professors at CSULB will use them.
Note: Don’t waste your money on the “iClicker+” The only thing that makes it “+” is that it’s smaller.
