Other than Chem 1A? Any suggested retailers? I see some on eBay and Craigslist.

I think Psych 1 and econ 1 also need iclickers.

what are iclickers?

little dealios you use to answer questions on the big screen, ez points. right???

wait…, what?

They are just multiple choice answer machines that will record your answer. Teachers use it to make attendance affect your grade and to just do little quizzes in class.

Another class would be Chem 4A. According to some videos from last year, the professor had his students do these quizzes with the iClickers… (no, I’m not obsessed about Chem 4A! It was just something I came upon on the Internet. Stop looking at me like that!!!)

We have to buy them?
What if we attend a different chem 1A lecture than we actually signed up for?

yes, you do have to buy them.
it’s okay to attend other lectures, they only let you “vote” once though, so you can’t attend multiple lectures to get more iclicker points.

So it’s ok if I get my points from Stacy even if I’m signed up for Majda? How does that work for attendance?

I took this 2 years back so this is what it was like back then: there are 3 lectures but it is essential 1 lecture. you attend what you want, can vote once a day only, they tally them up somehow and put it in your grade. exams for all 3 are identical. lab sections consist of students enrolled in any of the 3 lectures. stacy & majda lecture on the same thing, one lecture is webcasted. As long as you go to any lecture and use your iclicker (and get the right answer) you get the points allotted for that day. They’re pretty flexible, I believe if you get 80%+ of the iclicker questions, you get full points on the iclicker quiz section.

Theoretically one could attend an earlier Chem 1A session, without using the iClicker, learn the correct answers for each question, then attend the later session to score full points for the iclicker questions. Pretty minor in the scheme of things, but for a fanatical premed . . .

Does it matter if I buy a random iClicker off Amazon rather than a “Berkeley iClicker” from the bookstore? Do I need to tell the prof I am doing this so s/he can link it up to a system or something? (sorry, slight technophobe)

How much of your Chem 1A grade is the iclicker quiz worth? Like 10%?

Make sure to register those i-clickers soon. Just follow the direction on [i>clicker | Register Your i>clicker](clicker”>http://www.iclicker.com/registration/)

Usually Stacy will give 30s-1min per question and you can input your answer once the red light on the i-clicker blinks green. A point of advice for people freaking over i-clicker quizzes is to study ahead of time.

agneisse - you go to the iClicker web site and register the device, then it will be picked up by the systems in the Chem lecture. Doesn’t matter where you get it, used or new, only that it be a compatible iClicker.

Theoretically, what about in practice?

I’m a fanatical premed with TERRIBLE background on chemistry, and I’m already wetting my pants at the prospect of these iClicker quizzes :X.

The reason i say i it is relatively minor is that your total grade is out of 1000 points and the iclicker quizzes account for only 70 of them. The issue is what use of the extra hours is most rewarding - attending double lectures to assure full iclicker points or extra studying for those discussion quizzes, the several tests, and the labs.

Midterm 1 70
Midterm 2 100
Midterm 3 100
Midterm 4 30
Final 250
Lab* 246
iClicker Quizzes 70
Discussion Quizzes 36
OWL Homework 98
Total 1000

Since the grade ranges are approximately as below, the extra points MIGHT just be the difference between a letter or at least a + or -.

Grade Range Percent
A 880-100 88.0-100%
B 730-879 73.0-87.9%
C 580-729 58.0-72.9%
D 430-579 43.0-57.9%
F <430 <43.0%

Furthermore, questions are (slightly) different in each lecture.

Keep in mind that the answer you lock in is the last answer choice before the time runs out. This means that if you think the first choice you picked is not the correct answer, you can pick another choice within the time limit.
