<p>I remember taking a “Writing for College” seminar that my HS offered to help us all get going on our essays, and they talked about the top 10 crappy essay mistakes. Writing an essay about “How I felt doing my applications” was right up there on the list of bad ideas with writing a stream-of-consciousness poem or dropping numerous F-bombs over the course of the essay. They actually showed us examples of bad essays and my favorite was the one in which the kid talked about how he smoked dope to get his inspiration to be creative and that he wanted to go to School XYZ cuz it had a well-developed drug use culture. Classic.</p>
