Ideal number of universities on transfer list

What would you all say is the ideal number of universities a person should have on his/her list? Clearly, it should be lower than a person applying first-time to universities.

What is your list -- if you have one?

There’s no pristine number, per se. Personally, I’m going with the safety/target/reach strategy so I can ensure that I won’t be at my current institution next semester. You’d probably want to go with a minimum of 3. As far as a maximum, it’s up to you, but this transfer stuff is time consuming amidst a full semester of classes and ECs.

If it’s a safety, all you need is one. If you’re hoping for a school with a sub 5 percent acceptance rate, apply to many.

It depends largely on whether or not you are happy staying at your current school. If you are not, then you need to apply to a large spread of schools, including lots of safeties.

I’m applying to 20  Crazy, right?! It’s just that I have a unique case, and basically I need someone to take a chance on me…

I applied to five out of high school and when I transferred. Not the same five, though.

High school:

Eastern Mich - Match
Northern Mich - Match, nearly a safety
Central Mich - Match
Grand Valley State Univ - Reach
Ferris State - Match

And technically a community college too, but that was open admissions so I don’t really count it even though I attended. XD

Junior Transfer:

Umich - Match
Michigan State - Match
Grand Valley State - Safety
Northern Mich - Safety
Eastern Mich - Safety

I think number of schools depends on the person and how much money they are willing to spend. Reach/match/safety is a good way to go with at least a few of each. I’ll probably apply to 2/3 reach, 2/3 match and 2 safe. Around 8 schools and a lot of money.
