I am willing to get a masters degree and am curious what are some booming medical careers out there that maybe go unnoticed?
Gerontology is a booming fields as we baby boomers age. Genetics is also one you might consider.
Biomedical engineering
Biostatistics and bioinformatics (MS or MPH)–very high demand field right now. Several of D2’s friends have dropped out of PhD programs in biology to get this degree because the employment market for it is so hot
Cytotechnologist
Medical & health physics (Many jobs require a PhD)
Anesthesia Assistant
Advanced practice nurses (Nurse anesthetist, nurse practitioner, nurse midwife)
Physician assistant
Audiology (AuD required)
Genetic counselors
Podiatrists (DPM required)
Surgical technologists (Post bacc certification training required, but not necessarily a MS)
Radiation therapist
Health Informatics (aka Electronic Medical Record Management)–management requires a MS plus a background in IT, CS or software engineering. Also a very hot field right now due to implementation of mandatory use of EMRs at all healthcare facilities.
