Hi guys! I’m currently a sophomore in high school and I really want to get involved in education reform related stuff outside of school. The problem is that I’m not sure where I should get involved since most opportunities I know of are STEM related. Does anyone have any recommendations for things I could get involved in, in this areas? Any help is appreciated!!
For me, the big one was Speech and Debate. It teaches you so much! It enables you to make your point to a group of people, to think on your feet, and to do so without the fear that keeps so many people from public speaking…
Are there any student representatives on committees in your school or school district for any policy related areas? Any ballot initiatives related to education (funding or otherwise) coming up for 2018 in your area that you could volunteer for? Any state laws related to education in the pipeline at your legislature that you could get involved with?
Tutor, play with the kids in elementary schools in your neighborhood. Talk to the principals to offer some ECs for the kids.
What do you mean by education reform? Are you talking about policy groups? If that’s the case, see if your local Board of Ed has students members and what you need to do to get on that.
