IDOC filing

My FAFSA and CSS Profile were both submitted completely on time for my schools, but I'm sending my IDOC a few days after two of my schools' deadlines. Does that affect my aid, seeing as the IDOC is just a verification paper? I emailed both schools and haven't gotten a response yet, and I'm pulling together my IDOC right now to send out by priority mail.

That should be fine. The instruction said send them in as soon as possible if passed the deadline.

@billcsho I just talked to my parents, and found out we aren’t ready to file our tax return for an entire month. What should I do? Are my chances for aid now ruined because the IDOC is being sent a whole month late? :(

Send what you have now… then send corrections later. Ideally though, get your parents to understand the urgency of the situation. Future years they can probably slack some, but not this year.

^ The problem is one cannot submit IDOC without 1040. It may have some impact if funding is limited. Anyway, they may still come up with a tentative financial aid package if you have your FAFSA and CSS profile in early. It would not be finalized until you provided the document for verification.

@billcsho Yes, my FAFSA and CSS Profile were both submitted on time for my schools. The IDOC is the only problem, because of the 2013 tax return form. We’re filling it out as fast as we can, but my mom is a full time student and my dad is working two jobs, and we JUST got our W-2s last week :frowning: I emailed my schools to let them know my situation, but I’m worried that I won’t get my aid package until after May 1st, by which point it will be too late and my only chance of going OOS is gone.

You just try to sumbit as soon as possible, although it is always suggested to submit FA app as soon as possible.

Apalapa - I know this doesn’t help much, but I give you credit for trying to do this all yourself without your parents’ help.

I would suggest that you draw up a calendar, showing the IDOC due date and the date your award is supposed to be announced . . . and also showing the delays that will result from late submission of the IDOC. Put all those dates on a calendar, along with the date of your deadline for accepting or declining an offer of admission. Actually seeing it all laid out like that might help your parents to understand what happens if your aid package is delayed.

Keep in mind that your parents have been listening to you say “I need this NOW!” ever since you first learned to talk. Seeing the dates on a calendar might help them to realize that, this time, you really mean it. :)

This might be the time to hire a tax preparer to do the return for them. Do you have any summer earnings you could use to help pay the cost? If so, tell them what you’re willing to contribute. Even if they don’t accept your offer, it might help them to understand how much this means to you.
