If deferred, do I still have a chance?

I was deferred (ED) from Davidson, and I was wondering if I still have a chance of admission. My GPA and ACT score and ECs all seemed to match up, but I understand it's such a complicated process of deciding who fits the school or not. I plan on continuing to work hard at school and participating in all my activities (and applying to other schools), but does anyone have any experience with this? Any help would really be appreciated!!

Deferred students certainly still have a chance. Usually, the rate of admission of deferred students is, regrettably, a little bit less than the others in the regular pool. I remember when Georgetown deferred me, they wrote in the letter that approximately one tenth (as opposed to one sixth) of the deferred students would be admitted in the regular application process. You still have a chance, though! Make sure you apply to a range of other schools before the deadlines and good luck to you! Hope to see you on campus, next year! :)

Thank you for the info.! I applied to six other schools where I know I can be really happy, it's just that Davidson has always been my top choice! I hope I'll be there next year too! :) But if not, it just wasn't meant to be I guess... Thanks again!

I was deferred at Davidson too...:( have you heard back from them?

Continue to show interest! That's my best advice! Email questions to your admissions officer, maybe even ask them about the odds for deferred students! If you consistently show interest, they will show interest back.

I completely second that last statement. When I applied a few years ago, I also did ED and was deferred. Then I was waitlisted, and I didn't make it in off that list. But I transferred in the following year, so things worked out in the end.
But the point is that I completely failed at showing any interest after I was deferred. The admissions officers need to see that extra effort and excitement on your part and be assured that Davidson is really where you want to be. They obviously know you can cut it here, otherwise they wouldn't have deferred you. Don't bother them to death with questions or be a fly on the wall, but perhaps write a follow-up letter documenting any new successes or updates of achievements in school and reiterate how excited you are about Davidson. It could make all the difference in the world.

Good luck!
