If I could change one thing....

Everything but the SAT/ACT scores and the extra-curriculars seemed Ok to me. Just those two, moreso on the SAT/ACT scores were keeping me worried for the whole application process. Test-taking and standardized tests are not my things.

Any chance of transferring to a reputable computer science/engineering school?
Hi Guys! I recently completed high school and applied to three colleges. I got accepted into Bowie State University and the place is ok. Even while I am African american, I didn’t want to attend a HBCU…I want a more diverse college experience. I want to transfer in 2 years to a school like Georgia Institute of Tech, Illinois Inst of tech, UMD College Park or an UC University due to their highly reputable computer science/engineering programs. I don’t think I will ever get into those programs even if I do well here because the computer science program here is average. To a great dismay, I got at 1510/2400 on SATs and never took the ACT. I will be starting college next Tuesday. I believe I could obtain a significantly higher score on the SAT if I took it again and most tell me that the ACT is a lot easier than the SAT. Should I retake these test to earn a better footing. I would take in Dec. Also because of my high school guidance office I was misplaced and stuck to take trig my senior year when I was supposed to take Honor Precalc. I have tested into Honor Precalc at my current university and a lot of the schools stated above that it is highly recommended that I complete Calculus 3 before transferring for junior year. Is there a way I could test out of another math class during later semesters to catch up. Is there any hope for me? please help!

wow alot of people picked gpa

Extracurriculars

GPA by far. Sophomore slump is the most awful thing I’ve ever had to deal with my whole life so far. I’m pretty sure I was depressed or something back then.

gpa… I didn’t like grades before I graduated :(!

I only have a couple more days at school to change my courses. I would like to be able to keep my options open for university, but I definitely know I want to go into sciences. Also, I would like to apply to some liberal arts colleges such as Pomona and Reed College, as well as to some of the universities in my country.
I have always done the advanced courses in my school. Last year, in Sophomore year, I took Precalculus 11, Chemistry 11, Physics 11, pre-ap English 10, Socials (Humanities) 11, French Honors 10, and Drama 10, and I received a 96.0 average.

This year, in my Junior year, I am taking AP economics, which takes up one block but includes both Macro and Micro, AP Physics and Physics 12 concurrently, Precalculus 12, Chemistry 12, Pre-Ap English 11, and AP Statistics. Now for the dilemma… I am considering switching from AP Statistics to AP Computer Science A. I know how to do basic programming in Python. I have received the homework sheets from the class, and do not find them too hard. However, everyone tells me that Comp Sci is much harder than AP statistics. I have spent a fair amount of time on my AP Stats homework.

On the other hand, I am considering not taking either one of them. I have to prepare for SAT’s, and I also like to do art, write, sail, and I am running the science club this year and I hope to create a science project. If I didn’t take either, I would take Drama, which I really enjoy and have always gotten very high grades in.
It is a hard decision for me to make. Since school just started, I do not really know yet what my work schedule will be like because the teachers are taking it easy on us. I would like to have a decent amount of time for my ec’s, and I would also like to maintain my 4.0 GPA.

Next year, I am planning on taking Calc AB/BC (don’t know which one yet), AP Chem, Biology 12, and AP Lit. Beyond that, I do not know what other courses I will take.

Would dropping Stats lower my chances of getting into a good Liberal Arts College?
I really can’t decide what to do, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated :)

definitely extracurriculars… I am actually happy with everything else (:

Choosing classes.

Ditto on choosing classes… I’m a homeschooler, and an unorganized one at that, and while the work I do is decent and I do well in classes I take, I made the very horrible and unnecessary mistake of getting myself into a position where I only have two years of foreign language as a senior. Even worse, the second year IS senior year. I’m good in every other aspect, and this was such an unnecessary mistake it’s painful. cries

I really worried about my GPA, I really want a rising GPA for Junior year but right now that’s not happening omg

My essay!! Wrote it a day before submission and it didn’t work :(

willywonka I feel the same way, it’s like when I look at others ec’s and whatnot it seems almost impossible that they got that much done in 4 years… some of the applications would probably be the equivalent to a nobel peace prize.

I would say my interview.Nevertheless if you are good in your GPA, you might still denied or get failed when it comes to applying for a job. Having a high GPA will only consider you as a good in theories if you weren’t good in speaking. Speaking is good especially when looking for a job. Because in interview, it is the moment where you will going to sell yourself towards the employer and to their companies for them to hire you.

I’d change my extracurriculars. I have pretty much no leadership, and I’m really scared that I won’t get into any of the schools I want to because of it.

770 math, 770 writing, 690 reading (makes me look so illiterate and unbalanced) its probably the one dissappointment I have as well as a 3 on AP world history (my only 3)

definitely gpa/ more e.c.

Wow, if I could go back in time and restart my entire life…

I wish I did something big rather than being so diverse with my EC’s

Very easily my grades. I definitely didn’t put any effort into my classes, except for German. It’s actually a little embarrassing that I’ve done so poorly.
