If I don't ski, will I be sitting by myself all winter?

I have been reading about UVm and like it, but I don't ski, and money is too tight or me to take up a hobby that involves equipment and fees. Does a lot of the social life during winter at UVm center around skiing?

Lol…I don’t ski either. I bet a lot of people don’t either. But there are a lot of people who go to UVM exclusively for skiing.

There is plenty to do for non-skiers, who I believe are perhaps in the majority. It is a short walk down the hill into downtown Burlington, which has tons of shops, entertainment, night spots, activities, etc. You can go to hockey games or join an intramural team. If that is too ‘sporty’ for you, join a broomball team, which can be a lot of fun and skill can be considered optional. Lastly, ‘borrow’ a cafeteria tray and go sledding on some of the hills - we like going near the medical center.

You might want to try x-country skiing. You can rent the equipment cheaply or get it from the UVM outings center.

I remember one night we got decided to make snow. We turned all the hot showers on in a dorm bathroom, then used a fan to blow the mist out the open window into the below-zero air. Something to save up if you get bored one winter night and the conditions are optimal.

And, you have to give skitching on a snowy road a try at least once before you graduate!

you’re not alone! i might try it out once in a while though. i’ve never skied in my life.

@ALF, that story about making snow just got me even more interested in the school than I first was, and I’ve yet to visit the school.

No worries, the majority of kids I know don’t ski or snowboard. There are lots of things to do!
