So I might fail my AP Literature class with a D. Am i permanently disqualified from UCs and CSUs? Can SAT and AP scores cover it up?
The D grade will disqualify that semester from counting toward the four years of high school English courses. A sufficiently high standardized test score could replace it for high school subject requirement purposes.

However, if you are in 12th grade applying to colleges, you must notify them of the D grade as soon as you know it. Otherwise, you may get an admission offer that is conditional on “no D or F grades in your 12th grade courses” (a typical condition at UCs), which means that if you matriculate, your admission will be rescinded when they see the D grade on your final high school transcript.

If you are in 11th grade, the D grade will be included in your HS GPA and will be visible to admission readers when you apply to colleges in 12th grade.
Yes Im in 12th grade right now applying to colleges. I got a 3 on AP English Language and 650 on the English protion of the New SAT. Would any of the following cover up for the D in AP Literature?
See the first link in reply #1 for which test scores can be used to avoid a subject deficiency. However, you still need to be concerned about reporting it to colleges you are applying to and/or the possibility of rescission when they see your final transcript with a D grade.
Rule of thumb as for all the UC’s and CSU’s, no D’s or F’s Senior year or your admission will be in jeopardy along with not meeting the minimum 4 years of English as required. I would do everything in your power to get that D up to a C by semester end. Ask for extra credit, meet with your teacher and find some help.
if you gain admission into a UC and then earn a D in an A-G course, your admission will probably be rescinded. Id find a way to pass the class… or, plan to head to a CC next fall.
Thanks guys. It’s all good now. I managed to pass the class with a C+!
