If I get accepted to a CSU, but I want to go to a CC first, will I have to reapply next year?

Let’s say I get accepted to SFSU. Will they be able to postpone my admission to Fall 2018/19, or will I have to reapply next year? I’m asking this because my cousin was able to postpone his admission to Sac State in order to go to community college for one year to save money. Has SFSU done this for anyone?

There a very few reasons that the CSU’s will allow you to defer. Usually for Military duty or medical issues. I do not see how your cousin was able to defer his Sac state enrollment to go to a CC? Was your cousin a Freshman or Transfer? I would contact SFSU to see if it possible.

He is a freshman.

you will probably need to reapply as a freshman.

Also note - if you attend a CC, you can only apply as a transfer, which requires 60 units. If your cousin started with quite a few AP credits, he could have 60 after just one year at a CC.

It is possible your cousin made a special arrangement Sac State but, generally CSUs don;t make exceptions like this.

Please contact SFSU directly. They are the only ones who can really answer your question.
