If I get into my ED school, can I just miss the payment deadline for the RD schools on my commonapp to not apply? I've submitted my app to my RD schools, but haven't made the payments yet

Correct. Being accepted to your ED school means you must go there, meaning you should not apply to any other schools. By not paying, your applications will be incomplete

I wont have to e-mail them and withdraw my app?

i dont think that’s how you should go… You dont want to wreck up all your other college options just cuz ur ED-ing somewhere. I just ED-ed to Columbia, and im still dutifully completing all my other apps, cuz even if i dont make it to Columbia, i would want to have my best shot at the other colleges. Submitting ur payments late will make u look sloppy, and that, u just dont want to come across as…

The only way you can make a smarter call here, is to check for deadlines. Like for Columbia, the decision comes out on 1st of january. And some of my schools have their deadlines on the 3rd of january. I can leave out the payments for them till later. If i make it to columbia, i wont make their payments. If i dont, i’ll pay on the 2nd so that its still in the deadline. So check the deadlines, and see where u can be smart.

Why don’t you just complete all the applications but NOT send them in until you find out from your ED school whether you got in or not? That way you can manage your time and pay in time. By the 15th of Dec you will find out about your ED and then you can send everything to your RD schools afterward; instead of wasting your money and time now, and then having to email all your RD schools to withdraw your app if you get in ED.

@asbjaved: Oh I am currently in the process of completing all of my other apps. My decision comes out mid Dec, and most of my deadlines are Jan. 1st. I’m saying that I’ll still send in all my apps after I’m done, but just not pay the payments for commonapp if I get into my ED college.

Sounds perfect…

When you decide that you are not going to a school that you have submitted an app to, for whatever reason, you should definitely contact them to let them know. This allows them to take you off their mailing and contact lists and to stop devoting time and resources to reminding you to finish your application. It lets them focus their efforts on people who are actually interested in the school.
