Some info: I am doing ED at Columbia. I am not happy on my score and sure I can improve it these 2 weeks. Would it make any sense to send my lower 31? The cost is not a problem as I could not send my ACT scores for a specific reason so they have waived the fee to send it to 4 colleges. I am sure I can improve on the ACT in October.
You need to make sure Columbia will accept the score from the Oct test date for their ED. Some schools have ED policies where the latest ACT date they accept is Sept
@wisteria100 from Columbia’s website
“You may take standardized tests as late as November for Early Decision and January for Regular Decision.”
I will call them to clarify.
If you can, I would, unless you have a legitimate hook, 31 is on the bottom 20% of accepted students.
If they accept Nov scores, don’t send the 31 until you see if you get a higher composite in Nov
I have a great hook (being a refugee and having my own business and charity), but am relying on this score to prove my excellence. Should I send it? I am already taking it again in 2 weeks.
I am getting mixed answers. What do you guys think?
Send the ACT score of 31, and send the score that you take in October (during the test, there is an option to automatically send in your scores).
This way, if you do worse than 31, Columbia will still use the 31 in the admissions process, and if you do better, then they’ll use the better score.
Because you can’t see your October scores before you turn in the application, send in both just in case.
^ I totally agree. Send the 31. If your score improves they will take the better score.
@rdeng2614 sounds good. Thank you for your advice!
