If I had never met CC...

People have to pay to take the PSAT? It’s free at my school. Unless they slip it into our school fees or something. I get how it might be a waste of time, but a waste of money?

Before score choice, some people didn’t want to take the SAT in 9th or 10th grade, do well for their age but badly in comparison to how a senior would do, and then have colleges see those scores. So the PSAT was the way to go.

Wait, it’s free at your school? I had to pay $35 dollars!

^WOW. I had to pay only $13, and I took it at a school I don’t go to (my high school is online… lame, I know :-).

Unfortunately, for the NMS, it takes more than just an above average score to get some money. One would have to get above a 200 to even have a chance of getting some of the loot. The SAT is more practical since most colleges look at the SAT/ACT to offer merit based scholarships, along with your GPA, and whatnot.

I’ve taken the PSAT twice and personally felt that it did not help me get ready for the SAT at all. But of course that’s just my personal opinion on the matter.

And while CC is a great resource for students and parents, I think it shouldn’t be taken too seriously. The majority on this site are overachievers, so anything below a 2000 on the SAT or below a 30 on the ACT will be considered as ‘not good enough’ to them. Realistically, if you are an average student, or have a child that’s pretty average in terms of academics, take the scores of the students on this site with a grain of salt. It’s actually sometimes depressing to see kids re-taking their ACT because they got a 34-35.

^^Haha, mine is too! I went to my old high school to take it. I think it’s just because I live in CA though. The cost of living is more expensive which means we have to pay the proctor more. She didn’t even collect my ticket though so I could have just taken it for free:/

psat’s were free at my school too. and everyone takes them twice. one sophmore and one junior year…

i would go to a community college and be unhappy for the rest of my life

I wouldnt be freaking out about college.

if i never found out about CC…

I also would not be freaking out about getting into college, 1 year before applications start
I would not be as concerned with the number of APs I’m in
I would not have known community service and volunteering was not as great as I previously thought
I would be a little more satisfied with my position as a student,
20 clubs is bad, 2-3 is good,
sat scores can make or break a person,
some people go crazy over an A-,
getting into college was a bigger competition then i thought,
deceiving people who stack ECs to get into college
crappy counselors that ruin chances for students

If I had never visited CC, I would not have looked at the username above me and think, “this guy likes Unweighted GPAs?”

If I had never met CC,

I never would have known that the PSAT wasn’t just the Practice SAT and would never have been angry that no one bothered to tell me it was also the NMSQT. (I never knew until long after I got my scores back.)

I would never have known that course rigor is important until I started visiting college campuses (and then it would have been too late). I was too late, however, to prevent myself from sacrificing a crucial AP, which will definitely affect my admissions.

I wouldn’t be so mad at myself for not volunteering for a million hours of community service.

I never would have considered OOS schools.

I never would have known about the SAT II’s.

I never would have known college admissions was so competitive and would have set myself up for severe disappointment.

I wouldn’t have known that you can self-study APs.

I would have been less scared of the world of college admissions. Because truthfully, I used to think I stood a decent chance at an Ivy. Now, despite the fact that I know 20+ Ivy students with less impressive applications than the ones posted on CC (which are supposedly still “iffy” candidates), I don’t even want to think about Harvard.
