If I waitlist for a class, what are my chances of getting in?

I am debating on waitlisting 3 classes:

Soc 165 - 5 people on the waitlist
Soc 130 - 11 people
Soc 153 - 8 people

Should I chance it? There are about 80 seats for each class
I am asking because I have never done the waitlist thing and I am a little nervous

Thanks for your input!

Search through old threads. This question has been asked many times before.

Usually ~10% drop unless the class is rarely offered and absolutely needed

Might be cutting it close for two of those.

Yeah I don’t think I’m gonna chance it. I just registered and I am 9th, 13th and 14th on the waitlist. This just really sucks

I waitlist for classes:

Math 20E - 2 people before me
Chem 6C - 12 people before me
Chem 7L - didn’t even sign yet

In Fall and Winter I didn’t have any problems, but Spring is horrible.
Only two classes avaliable for Physics, Chem lab and Math.
Chem is overlap with Phys.
Something is wrong.
UCSD wants us to take summer school for sure.
They wanted our money.

The general idea is that 10% will drop, but it also depends on the class. Your best bet is to call the department and ask. Many times they’ll say a new section will be opened and you can try to keep an eye on that.
