I'm not sure if I want to apply to Williams, but I definitely want to go to medical school in the future. Will it be beneficial for me if I graduate from Williams if I apply to medical schools?

yep…

Why so? Can u be a little bit more specific.

Top LACs have very solid placement into graduate schools. They list the success of their students in being accepted to med/law/whatever on their website… should be under career services or something.

However, the wording of your question is a little awkward for my tastes. I’m assuming you’ve looked into Williams and you like it and everything, you also want to be pre-med and hope that those two things correlate. I mean in all honesty you’re not going to go wrong at Williams no matter what you do… I just want to make sure that the fit has been explored.

In terms of prepping you for MCATs or for med school, a top LAC like Williams is going to do a good job of teaching you the necessary skills through the required pre-med courses. Although courses like intro bio or intro chem might be larger than usual, they should break down into smaller sections, give you that classic small school focused attention and whatnot, and really prepare you.

That being said. I am not pre-med nor do I go to Williams, but what I’ve stated above are generally accepted facts (as far as I know). I’m sure you know that pre-med is a track, and not a major, so make sure to poke around in the departments of potential majors (you don’t HAVE to do bio as a major :)) and make sure that you like what you see.

One final thing, being from Williams alone obviously will not get you into med school… it’s assumed that you do your part of course.

@liminal, thank you so much for all your advice. I really appreciate it. I think I will apply to Williams; I was just wondering if I would be at a disadvantage if I went to a liberal arts college instead of say, Cornell or Brown.

You would be at no disadvantage, and maybe even at an advantage for med school admissions if you went to Williams. But you shouldn’t apply only if you want to go to med school. You really do need to make sure it’s a good fit. The typical Williams student is intellectually curious about a wide variety of subjects and is usually involved with athletic, the arts, and/or social causes. In addition, it’s rural so loving the outdoors is a big plus as well as wanting to be part of a close-knit community as opposed to any sort of urban live. If you are used to being the smartest, most athletic, and most well-rounded in high school, be prepared to be the just typical Williams student.
