I’m in 11th grade.
I already took the old SATs twice with scores that I am very satisfied with.
My guidance counselor told us to take both the old and the new SATs. As a result, I have planned to take a new SAT, for the first time, in June.
But what if I don’t get a good score in June? Should I even bother taking it again to improve my score? I realize that time is running out, and I would like to get ACTs and subject tests done as well. I don’t want to be too late with college applications for senior year.
Thanks for any advice.
If you already have scores you’re satisfied with, I’m not really sure why you would be taking the new one at all
No reason to take it again. The New SAT is very different that the old one. It is not necessarily harder or easier, it is just different, so you have to practice it differently than you did for the old SAT. It is not worth it unless you really want to improve your score.
I don’t think there is any reason to take the new SAT if you did well on the old one. I am in the same situation and plan on, if anything, taking some subject tests in June. It’s probably better to focus on other stuff now if the test scores were actually good.
One thread reports that a certain school isn’t taking the Old SAT for class of 2017. So, I’d be sure to check each school you are interested in. Many are quite clear on their admissions requirements. They are aware of the difficulties for the class of 2017, so I think they are trying to relay the information.
If your schools will accept the old test, I don’t see why you’d need to take the new version at all. It will open you up to wanting to take it a 2nd time.
Congrats on tests you are pleased with.
Check the schools you plan to apply to. My son is also graduating in 2017. He took the old SAT last May & October. He’s happy with his scores. But one of the schools he is applying to won’t accept the old SAT for anyone graduating 2017 or later.
I see that Virginia Tech is requiring the new SAT for the class of 2017.

I feel bad for our oldest son because, since he was the first to go through the process, we didn’t know which tests were important and he took too many. He took both Math 1 and Math 2 SAT subject tests, and then later we found out schools were only interested in the Math 2.
Thank you, everyone!
