True, but those of us in the middle range of the financial spectrum have to worry about that EFC...

if rejected, I will go to MIT

hey vivaldi, what is the middle range?

if rejected... I will cry, try to get something awesome lined up this summer (any ideas, anyone??), then go to Dartmouth, work like crazy, and apply for a transfer to Yale and Princeton (my #1 and #2 respectively); we are allowed to apply to more than one place for a transfer right? and does anyone know what the projected transfer rate will be for Princeton? I just emailed the Yale regional admissions officer and he informed me that Yale's is LESS than 5 % .

I'm just saying "solidly middle class"...

Ah, uh, it's 0. Princeton doesn't offer transfer yet.

well right, but that's what I mean by "projected" , when they start utilizing transfers I wonder what the acceptance rate will be, if they've already set a max %/# of transfers to accept of those that apply, you know?

I think it would depend on the number of students that decide to study abroad.

See, this is the problem... everyone applies to like, every Ivy League and then a crapload of people don't get in to the one Ivy they actually want to go to.

College admissions is so messed up.

yes I agree. I wish genuine, real attachment to/love of the school counted for something in the admissions, i mean the process already seems to be pretty darn subjective anyhow.

Or greenleaf, you could be like me, apply to 5 and... get rejected from 5. My stats are not amazing but are definitely Ivy league material, 1480 730/720/720, tons of EC leadership, etc. etc. etc. I don't know what the hell happened.

As for my options now, its Villanova or BC. Can't say I particularly like either of them but they were my safeties. This is so horrible...

but see, that's just it pre1321! if students had only applied to their top one or two ivies, you probably would've gotten in! And you're stats ARE amazing, don't let anyone tell you different.

SO MANY like you pre1321... don't let these boards fool you... if there were a pro-baseball site, the only people who'd hang around and post would be the steroid abusing 700+ home run hitters.

OMG pre1321 i know exactly what you're talking about. im definitely not a "shoo-in" for the ivies but i thought i'd get into at least one... and when a college tells you "you're good enuff but we cant accept u", you can believe it, but when four colleges tell you that you DO get discouraged...

If rejected, I'll go to the University of Washington Honors Program.

"if rejected, I will go to MIT" - exactly.
However, If I get accepted - I would do the same... ;)

"princeton won't let you have debt...grants only"

I would like to announce that the correct word for Bokonon's statement is loans. And even then, she is wrong because the university itself does offer loans. They just don't include them in your original financial aid package. Therefore, a more reflective statement would say:

"Princeton does not offer loans in your original financial aid package. However, you ARE subject to graduating in debt."

Dangerous thinking? Perhaps.

But it's definately better than unconditionally believing what they say.

well considering in the past princeton had already been named the "lowest number of students graduating with debt" at 20%ish, before their new financial aid package, this percetange will probably drop significantly. besides for most the financial aid package is very good and rarely do people even take loans out

if rejected, I will go to either Harvard,Yale or MIT(99% not MIT)

if accepted, I will go to either Harvard or Yale

hmmm

Actually, I meant to use the word "debt," because in their financial aid offer, they only give grants, and therefore you will incur no debt. However, if you decide to take a third party loan or a direct student loan with Princeton beyond what they see as your need, then of course you will graduate with some debt.
