if the app says...

the college app's teacher recommendation form says it has to be an academic teacher from past 2 yrs. but the common app, which the college also takes, does not say it has to be a recent teacher. so if im using the common... is it okay if the teacher is from my freshman year?
im confused, please give your opinion...

freshman year is a little too long time ago. coleges want to know the recent you, nbot what you have been. can't you get a more recent rec?

i know what you mean, but just because he was my freshman teacher doesnt mean he doesnt know me well. he knows me the best because he's been my close mentor and coach for all these years and seen me mature. i know that no other teacher could/would give a better recommendation.

sooo.... if i just pretend i didnt see the college's own app and just used the common.... ??

Even if you had the teacher in 9th grade, if you have remained in close contact (as coach, etc) and he/she knows you well, then defintiely have them write your rec. In fact, I think coaches are sometimes better qualified to write recomendations because they get to know you better than teachers, like you work ethic, passion, teamwork, maturity, etc.

One of the teachers I have writing my recommendations has been by teacher for 3 years, but also my coach for 4 seasons (2 diff sports) and though I do well in her class, I picked her more because were really close from all the time she was my coach. She definitely knows more about me than any of my other teachers, regardless of how recently they taught me.
