Hi everyone, I am applying to UCLA as a Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology Major.
On assist, I was checking the requirements for math and in fine print it says
“The Calculus for Life Sciences courses above have been approved as
substitutes for UCLA’s Math 3ABC series through Spring 2019. Students, however,
may still be required to complete additional Math courses after transfer to
complete this requirement.”
Right now on assist it says we only need 3 quarters of calc at our school, but they make it seem like once i get there, I would have to take an additional calc class. Should I call admission to see what they mean. I really thought I was done with math.
We have a Calc 1D at our school which I havent taken, should I take it now or wait til I get there (if i get in of course)?
Perhaps that is just boilerplate, if you mean like in this example ASSIST page:
http://web2.assist.org/web-assist/report.do?agreement=aa&reportPath=REPORT_2&reportScript=Rep2.pl&event=19&dir=2&sia=DAC&ria=UCLA&ia=UCLA&oia=DAC&aay=16-17&ay=16-17&dora=CELL+MOL
The UCLA MCDB major page:
https://www.mcdb.ucla.edu/undergraduate/major-requirements
lists allowed math sequences. Looks like if you cover one of these sequences of UCLA courses, you should be fine:
- MATH 3A+3B+3C
- MATH 31A+31B+32A
- LIFESCI 30A+30B and [STATS 13 or LIFESCI 40]
In the example ASSIST page from De Anza College to UCLA shown above, the only way to completely cover one of these sequences is with De Anza College MATH 1A+1B+1C, which covers UCLA MATH 31A+31B+32A.
Oh I do go to De Anza so that helps! I will finish 1C, I just heard some rumors that UCLA’s 3 Series covers what we cover in 1D, so its better to take it to 1D. I honestly have gotten so many conflicting opinions/facts. I have also taken Stats 10.
