If you could chance me, I would be forever in debt to you.

Hello, I was wondering if you could chance me for some colleges in California such as the following:
[ul][]University of Southern California (Continuing a Legacy started by my father)
[]University of Los Angeles
[]University of Irvine
[]Occidental University
[]University of San Diego
[]Berkley (Even though I believe my chance of being admitted is quite low)[/ul]
I've taken the SATI, SATII, as well as a few AP tests, scoring the following in each:

SATI:[ul][]1890, 10 on the essay without practice.
[]This is indeed a weak score, but I've been focusing more on school, I'm aiming to take the test again in October and November.[/ul]
SATII:[ul][]Biology - 770
[]Chemistry - 740[/ul]
AP Tests:[ul][]Biology - 5
[]Chemistry - 4[/ul]
I'm currently a Junior with a 3.67 unweighted GPA, but when calculating only the academics, I have a weighted academic GPA of 3.83. The school I go to is a highly competitive school. What may possibly validate such a statement? The fact that the school is populated by nearly 4,000 students with a Asian-dominant ethnicity, a majority of the people in our AP circle actually consists of students taking at least 6 AP courses as a Junior and Senior. The school is a public school and is as close to being that of a private school as it can, academic-wise.

I'm currently taking U English Language and Composition, (AP) United States History, (AP) Calculus AB, (AP) Physics B, and Mandarin 3.

[ul][li]My courses are actually more difficult than those of other students, not because of how I have four AP's, but because the AP Physics teacher does not give partial credit on tests and counts only tests and labs into the grade, resulting in few passing and most failing.[/ul] [/li]My Counselor will be relaying the italics in a recommendation letter she promised me.

I contribute to my classes; my current English, History, and Mandarin teachers can vouch for me. In English, I help out by relaying the homework to everybody in the two periods that my teacher teaches, while I contribute in History by aiding my teacher in passing out homework. Moreover, in Mandarin I contribute everyday by volunteering to put up my answer for a question in the assigned homework or reading aloud for the rest of the class.

I've been on Cross Country for a season, earning a SophFrosh letter for running 16:45, making me rank 25th on the team that year. The team also placed in the top 5 at state divisions, so that reveals the kind of members I worked with.

I've been on Track and Field for Two seasons, earning a SophFrosh letter both seasons.

I've played the Violin and have been in the School Orchestra since the 5th grade, which makes this my 7th year playing the violin. I was a section leader for three semesters and I also play the instrument with a passion.

I contribute to the community by volunteering at the local Hospital, contributing to the "atmosphere" and "mood" of the visitors, as my supervisor says.

I also show leadership and organization skills, as deemed by my supervisor at the Hospital and peers around me.

If I were to get a recommendation letter from a teacher, staff member or any other individual I work with, I would ask my current English Teacher, Mandarin teacher, Hospital Supervisor, and Counselor, who has a sufficient level of credibility.

I deeply apologize to anybody who altruistically took the time to go through this montage of items. I will return the favor one way or another. For now, Au Revoir.

by university of los angeles u mean ucla?

Oh yes, I meant UCLA.

Thanks for catching that.

Lol, cuz of ur SAT Scores and GPA - u cant into UCLA or UCB

ur in at UCI
low chance for SD… maybe 30%???

USC also tough, many 20-30%

You do realize I’m taking the SAT two more times, right?

Also, I’m not sure how much of a difference it would make, but would my chances get slightly higher if i apply as no FA needed?

I also forgot to add to the top that I’m also in Science Olympiad

For the UC schools, Irvine, Berkeley, San Diego and Los Angeles, it may make a difference if you are looking at engineering versus a liberal arts education. Engineering may be difficult with that GPA. But…

If your school is known for being excessively competitive, then you might want to ask the guidance counselor where the students from previous years went and what their grades and SAT scores were. That might give you a better idea of what you can expect for your case.

Yeah, we actually have a naviance program as well, so it shows the average gpa, sat score, etc. for students at each school. I was actually aiming to apply as maybe a neurology major or somewhere in the sciences, since that appeals to me the most.

I was actually wondering how the colleges, like USC, calculate a student’s high school gpa.

Can you correct me if I’m wrong; I believed that colleges usually get rid of the extra-curricular activity grades and incorporate the weighted points from each academic class, but I’m not too sure as to how they would do it.

Also, do you think it would make any difference if I asked for an interview from a few of the colleges?

Moreover, Thanks, AtomicGirl, for your response (:

UCI for sure. With the extra circular you have… you have a VERY good chance at UCSD and a high change at UCLA. my friends got in to UCSD with a 3.0 out of high school but lots of extra circular activity.

Thanks for your opinion Oofzishlilone

Also, how do you think my chances would change if I were to start a club that involved interacting with/shadowing at clinics? I’m actually close to refining the club to get it accepted, but I’m wondering how it would affect my chances. Yes, I would be the president of the club.

u have no chance at UCLA, u r way below their average SAT and GPA wise so u got no chance

It would be best if you started said club freshman or sophmore year but since its too late it really can’t hurt. And for most of those schools you really need to boost your SAT up.
