If you don't really love Carleton, plz don't accept a WL

Plz give more chance to those who really want to get in(like me, C is my #1 choice).

last year, 1531 applicants received WL and 363 accepted it. Finally, only 8 of them got off it. So plz give us more chance. if you don't REALLY want to go there, plz don't accept WL.

Thanks a trillion.

Son has decided not to pursue the waitlist. You’re welcome!

I find it pretty plausible that some 24% of waitlistees had Carleton as their first choice school and opt to remain on the list. Not sure your plea will help much. Also, if Carleton uses the waitlist like I think it does, people are going to get pulled off of it because they help round out the incoming class in terms of athletics, extracurriculars, minority demographics, underrepresented geographic location, academic interests, or possibly even ability to pay full tuition, you get the idea. Either you’ll be able to plug one of these holes for Carleton when they identify them in May, or you won’t, and the number of people on the list can’t change that too much. All you can do is state your case in a nice letter indicating your desire to be considered for admission off the waitlist and hope for the best. Good luck.

I think it’s actually more complex.

I’m not picking my #3 over my #2 just so that you can pick your #1 over your #2

Danggg, pFNMCp, that was a little hostile.

I don’t think anyone’s suggesting you do that. I think it was more directed to others on the wait list. Like, don’t accept a place unless you really want to go if you get off.

Does it matter, though? If someone accepts a place on Carleton’s waitlist but doesn’t really want to go (which doesn’t make much sense, when you think about it) and they are offered a spot, they will turn it down and it will be offered to someone else on the waitlist. I doubt anyone would accept a waitlist spot out of spite for the other applicants!

Haha I wasn’t trying to sound hostile, sorry. Just saying that I like Carleton a lot without “really loving” it. I might lose as much by not going to Carleton as Everness would.

Maybe more to the point would be a plea that accepted students that have decided to go somewhere else should let Carleton (and anywhere else) know ASAP so that those on the WL will know sooner rather than later.

i am an international and am not accepting Carleton’s offer to wait…i am so happy to have got into Wharton and Harvard but Carleton’s wait list was a shocker…anyway good luck to everyone, am sure everyone will end up at the ‘right’ place.
