If you get deferred...

are you are allowed to apply to other schools or would that break the early decision commitment

I'd help you if I could on that one. Sorry for the useless post.

I'm confused, why wouldn't you be allowed to apply to other schools?? I mean once you get deferred you're no longer bound to their contract. After all, if you couldn't apply to other schools if you're deferred then you would pretty much be screwed.

You can apply to one school ED and as many schools as you want regular or EA before the deferred decision comes out. Once you find out if you're accepted/deferred (or rejected) at the ED school, you'll have to cancel all other apps if you're accepted, and you won't have to do anything with the other apps if you're deferred/rejected ED.

Once you are deferred, you're no longer bound to that school...in fact, it would really stink if you were, as at most schools, a deferral is basically equivalent to a rejection...though I go know of some who went on to get accepted.
But even if you are deferred and ultimately accepted in the RD round, if your mind has changed, you can even choose to accept a different school if you want to.

Yeah a deferral simply means you are a competitive applicant but your overall app is not good enough to be accepted at that point so they put your app in the RD pool. However, deferral usually results in waitlist or rejection

thanks ccers
