If you graduated with a degree from the business school...

What are you doing now, as in what is your job/career?

Also what was your major in college (accounting, finance, marketing, MIS, economics, etc).

I just think it will be interesting to see what you majored in and what you are doing in the real world for many of us in school still.

Thanks

I majored in accounting. Afterwards, I worked for both the government and large accounting firms and even did a stint with a wall street bond trading firm. Now, I am a semi-retired writer and speaker.

I work for a relatively well known consulting firm for almost a year now. I am looking to switch jobs maybe even industries. Consulting is cool but the travel is a strain. My undergrad was in Economics it was a BSc. I am looking at MSFE programs and doctorate programs currently.

juggernaut, didn’t you go to Depaul? I may have asked you this before, but I’m actually planning on going there for my Macc. How were your job prospects near and after graduation?

For me it was different as a Economics major in the College of Commerce especially in this market. But major trading/prop firms look at DePaul, the big 4 look at DePaul, major consulting firms do too, and lots of smaller firms located in Chicago look at DePaul. I landed my job because I friend worked for the firm too. For accounting it is a different story. My friend who received her undergrad in accounting went to work for PricewaterhouseCoopers after graduation. I know for a fact PricewaterhouseCoopers, Deloitte, and Enrst & Young all recruit from DePaul for accounting. What is nice about DePaul, is their professors are not purely research driven. At DePaul the professors are more about the teaching and education, you tend to get to know your professor better(no TAs per say) and all the professors have their own connections. Finding a job is not hard, as long as you are the one doing the work.

Sound like a plan then. Im going to apply to both UIUC and Depaul, but Depaul is really number 1 on my list right now, mainly because of the city combined with recruiting. Thanks for the feedback.

I would love to go to UIUC for a masters, specifically a doctorates or MS in Finance.

I would like to go there as well, assuming I could get in. My only problem with UIUC is that its in the middle of nowhere. Corn fields aren’t very entertaining, and drinking to the point of memory loss gets old really really quickly.

UIUC is a pretty awesome school. You can find stuff to do besides drinking.

Im sure there is, but I would think you would have to look a lot harder to find it. If I were able to get into both UIUC and Depaul, I’d have a really hard time choosing. I think Im just ready to get out of NC and into Chicago, so even though its only a years time for the masters, it might be a really long year.

Do you know DePaul is on quarters, 10 weeks? UIUC is on semesters 16 weeks.

Yeah I know about Depaul being on the quarter system. Im not too sure about how it works in depth or how it would effect me. I figured it would be something I would get used to in time. Was this a negative for you?
