Nah, I know Anna Kendrick was in Twilight, and she was awesome in Up In The Air, so don’t do that. And it’s a bit extreme.

The New World Order: The US revives manifest destiny and conquers the world! Thus spreading obesity and stupid entertainment to all!

Oh yeah, we have health standards and requirements. World Domination!

As a second thought, what about if all of the people on HSL were in gov’t?

Umm… you do realize that WE are the illegal immigrants, not the people who lived here first… right?

^ Agreed. Damn the brits for screwing up our ideas of immigration.

I would try to or persuade Congress to:

Establish complete separation of church and state. No “under God” in Pledge of Allegiance, no requirement for government officials on any level to take any religious oath, and no tax exemption for churches.

Legalize same-sex marriage and ban discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.

Ban affirmative action in all places and institutions, public and private, and make college admission processes more objective.

Pull all troops out of Middle East.

Implement stricter immigration laws.

Increase enforcement of anti-violence and gang laws.

Reduce as much tariffs as possible, promote globalization and international trade.

Sign the Kyoto Protocol, implement strict environmental laws, and promote efficient energy use.

Increase funding for education and research.

Remove all restrictions on abortion and promote stem cell research.

Lower the age of consent.

Authorize the overthrow of the North Korean government. Maybe. lol

Implement stricter laws on marijuana and other harmful drugs’ use.

If I were the president I’d probably feast on fried chicken and watermelon as I watch some crappy Tyler Perry T.V. show.

What the heck? The more you promote globalization, the more we kill the planet. These are really contradicting viewpoints IMO.

There is no national age of consent. Are you referring to sex? Then what would you lower it to, out of curiosity?

So you’re going to make cigarettes and alcohol illegal, correct? Because they are much more harmful than pot.

^ could you explain how we kill the planet exactly?

And Age of Consent is state-wide, not national.

Persuade Congress to pass a law that allows children to be legally and financial independent of their parents at any age, and set up federally funded programs to help them.

And no, it’s not for the purposes of financial aid. I just think that allowing parents to make all the decisions for their kids is bad.

^^ Globalization promotes international trade. That requires airplanes, trucks, ships, etc that hurt our planet. We also need more oil (see national news for why that’s bad). Plus, globalization means that we import more and more objects which are used from natural resources. We need to start producing more things nationally to reduce carbon emissions.

Secondly, that is what I said. I said there is no national age of consent.

^ Children can be legally independent, they just need to be emancipated. Children can technically be financially independent at 18. Yes, they need to include parents on financial aid forms. But if you set up federally funded programs, all it will do is have kids claim financial independence so they can get help. That is what they used to do before financial aid forms required specific criteria for being independent.

I think I need to clarify:

By globalization I mean removing cultural barriers and increase cosmopolitanism. I am not a proponent of tradition cultures and believe the world should be connected on many levels.

I mentioned used of efficient energy to offset possible increase in damage to the environment as a result of increased international trade; I wish to see global use of efficient energy.

But I messed on age of consent. I guess I should rephrase that as “urge state legislators to lower the age of consent to 15 or the average age when teenagers reach the height of puberty.”

I don’t even care about financial aid forms.

Children can be emancipated, but to do so, they need to show that they are able to sustain themselves financially. Very often, children must stay with their parents even if their parents provide adverse conditions. Alternatives (e.g., group homes, foster care, etc.) arn’t too appealing either.

What about that girl who got her ovaries removed at her parents’ request so that she would be more “manageable” for her parents? That should never be allowed.

Right… but that is about what would happen if you set up special funds and stuff for them, too.

Sorry. I’m not sure what you’re talking about. Under 18, her parents wouldn’t be allowed to do that unless absolutely necessary. Over 18, it was her choice. Do you have a link to that story? Never heard of it.

^ Lol…that sounds absurd…never heard of that either…

^^^^^

Over history that has happened. It failed everytime. Import substitution is great for the short term.
Age of consent is adjusted state-wide, you can’t change it on a national level. This is a federal system. Like Virginia’s age of consent between teens is 15.

So… you think EVERYONE should be like New York City? How boring and that will QUICKLY lead to the demise of planet Earth and the human race.

^ I am currently confused why people have a tendency to twist a statement into an extremity. I believe cultures and traditions should exist to an extent that they don’t interfere with global communication, progress, and understanding on most levels. Even if conformity is as you described, I don’t see how it will bring about doom. The “cultural richness” that people so value today is definitely overrated; globalization is a lot more practical and bring out all progress.

One day I hope to see the end of countries and that the world will be one political and cultural whole.

runs away ._.

^ I am sincerely sorry that you don’t see the beauty in having cultural differences. It is the spice of life.

I suggest reading “The Cave” by Jose Saramago or “The Giver” or “Anthem” or anything of that nature before deciding that you think the world should be uniform.

Tell me, have you ever traveled before (as in, not solely to tourist destinations)? Or lived outside America? I am genuinely interested.

^ I love Anthem. One of the best books I read.
