If you werent filmed at a SUNY Purchase audition at Unifieds, does that mean you did not get in?

My S auditioned for SUNY Purchase BFA Acting program (not MT) at NY Unifieds a few weeks back, but was not filmed during his audition. After he did his monologue, the three men he was auditioning for, who had seen on his resume that he was a second degree black belt, asked him to do some of his favorite Tae Kwon Do moves. They then asked my S to redo his monologue giving him some tips. After the second go, they seemed pleased and then asked him if he could sing (which he can). My son got half way through his song, they stopped him and said “Ok, great we just wanted to make sure.” My son was not videotaped at all and we have heard that videotaping at Purchase auditions indicates a call back. Can anyone else share their Purchase experience for current auditions this year? While we are at it, I would love to hear some experiences at CCPA auditions as well. Thanks all!

My daughter was not filmed and was not admitted.

According to my readings on CC, if you aren’t videoed for SUNY, you won’t get in. But I personally don’t know if it is true. My daughter auditioned in January, and was not videoed. I assume that she won’t be admitted, but I would love to hear that I am wrong!

My son wasn’t videoed (if I remember correctly), and didn’t get in. :frowning: The good news is that one year later, I couldn’t even remember where he got in, didn’t get in, and was waitlisted. I had to go back to an old thread to check. What a difference a year makes

My S said he didn’t see any film equipment at SUNY Purchase at Chicago Unifieds. He can’t find things right in front of him at times though, so I’m not sure that means anything:)

My son was not video taped at Unifieds in NYC 2 years ago and did not get in.

I auditioned at Chicago, and was not filmed. Also did not see a camera. I talked to a lot of people who had auditioned on other days, and none of them said that they were filmed this year either. Hoping that maybe they ditched that process for this year? Can anyone report being filmed this year?

I am thinking the same thing @frostyagain‌. My S said he didn’t see any equipment in NY.

Come to think of it, my daughter also was at NY Unifieds, and said she didn’t see any video equipment. She was surprised when I asked her about it.

On another note, we heard a lot of negative feedback on CC and from others who had auditioned previously at Purchase. Things such as the panel being pompous or rude, or comparing it to a cattle call. To the contrary it was one of my S’s favorite auditions. He felt really comfortable.

@YardleySisa‌ That’s what we are hoping.

Sorry but I know one person asked to do monologue and they did tape it at the Chicago Unifieds last week and a friend who got admitted last year was videotaped at the 2014 Chicago Unifieds.

Well, there you have it! :frowning:

Well, they can all still be hopeful I guess

Four years ago D was not taped at Chicago and not admitted. This year youngest D was taped in LA…so who knows.

My S auditioned on the 3rd Feb and it seemed that there was a recording device that was there for the entire day. Many people were recorded before and after him. He was recorded as well. One the students told us that many people walked in and the adjudicator just began taping. I am not sure what this means but this is what happened when we were there. Good luck to everyone!

@Gallant7‌ my son recalls a tape recorder on the table, but no video camera.

@thestage603 my son said there was a video recorder because it was the same make as the one he borrowed from school to do his prescreens. It was opened when he came in the room and sitting on the table. I know people have many theories about the record no record thing. But we asked a number of kids that we knew on that same day and it was suggested that this panel for Purchase was smaller than normal, being only one gentleman, and perhaps many were recorded on day 2 because of the volume of kids auditioning. I really don’t know what it means other than on the day and in the block of time we were there many of the kids were video recorded.

Very interesting, we will have to wait to see how it all washes out!

I am sure they aren’t admitting every kid that was video taped, but I am fairly certain that if you were not, you will not be admitted.
