<p>I was really kick myself for not applying financial aid, but after reading your cases(very sorry to hear, btw), I’m relieved that I didn’t spend time doing FAFSA.</p>
<p>If you’re talking just about the UCs and that state schools, it varied for us. Basically only loans, with the exception of an undergrad scholarship (I take this be a grant) from UC Davis for close to $5,000. Our family makes around $80,000 a year. Our daughter is the only child living at home.</p>
<p>Private schools we did get more. USC gave us a $20,000 grant and the rest in loans and then we had our 27-grand EFC. It was still not affordable. UOP gave us $6,000 in grants. Again, a drop in the bucket compared to their costs. And that was even with a $10,000 regent’s scholarship. Cal Poly SLO only offered loans. But, since we have enough to pay the full amount from a special savings, my daughter won’t need to use the loans. She’s going there.</p>
<p>So, I would say in our salary range (middle class), **no-loan **aid in the CA public university system isn’t something you see a lot of.</p>
