IGETC Certification?

Hello,

I was admitted to UCSD's Muir College for Fall 2013 and have included in my application that I will have completed the IGETC program. I have finished all the required courses, but the problem is that my CC does not have my high school transcripts, and therefore they do not have proof that I took my two years of a language other than English. I'm trying to have my high school transcripts sent to my CC ASAP but I'm worried that the process along with the certification may not be done by the July 15 deadline.

What I'm wondering is what difference will it make between certification and no certification if all courses were completed anyway? Will it affect the courses I will have to take once I'm at UCSD? Also, how would I go about notifying them that I was unable to get certification -- the same way I would notify them of academic changes?

Thank you for any assistance you can provide me!

These kind of deadlines can be pushed by your admission officer. You need to contact him/her asap. You will be fine.

Thanks, I have and feel a bit better from your answer.

I’m still curious though, what does the actual certification do if you’ve completed the curriculum as opposed to not getting certification?

UCSB told us that as long as we get our transcripts in by July 30th, we should be fine. It might be the same for UCSD. Not getting IGETC certification can probable get you application rescinded.

Also, to speed up the process, go to your high school and just explain your situation to whoever handles those records. Explain that you really need their help in faxing your transcript to the CC. Alternatively, ask your CC if you can give them a sealed envelope with your transcript. If you can, then go to your high school and request that. Then sit down and wait until they get it done.
