No, I won’t be certified by July if I continue as planned.

The only class I’m missing is a foreign language. One of my options I suppose is to enroll in a language class this semester, and apply for the IGETC.

There’s a dynamically dated Spanish 1A class that started yesterday. The only issue is that would put me at 22 units for the semester.

I could do it, as I took 18 last semester and got all As, but I wasn’t anticipating on this.

Would the IGETC help me get in? Also, my app has already been sent to individual campuses. Would this cause in issue in just calling and telling them I made a mistake?

You might already know this, but if you took 2 years of language in HS with grades of C or better it counts for IGETC.

As you said, for Engineering IGETC doesn’t matter that much so I doubt it’ll boost your chances significantly. You would have to call/email all the UC campuses so that they can add a note to your application that you didn’t actually finish IGETC. I don’t think it actually affect your admission chances if you call at this point, because they probably haven’t started looking at transfer applications yet.

Just a follow up question: How do you become IGETC certified? Do you just take the classes listed and you become certified? Or do you have to apply for it?

Call all the UCs you applied to. Better safe than sorry.

Mermaker–When I SIR’d Cal they asked me to send in official transcripts and IGETC certification. I went into the admissions and records office and my CC and they gave me a form to fill out and sent it to Berkeley for me. I assume it’s a similar process at all CCs.

Hello everybody, thanks for the replies. I called the UC application center and they told me I could mail a letter to them with my name, application ID, what I need to change, and my signature, and they would make the necessary changes to my application and submit it to all the campuses I applied to.

I’ve decided to go this route, and I sent the letter last night.

mermaker: yes, I think you fill out the application with a counselor for the certification. You can do it before you apply.

I just realized this but I could have also done this with another academic update, which I just did because I have a pending (accepted but still arranging) DOE internship with a research group at UC Berkeley and I wanted them to know that!
