Hey guys, so just a couple questions. I'm hoping to apply this November for transfer as an anthro major at UC's and cal states, and I'm about to take my transferable igetc math class this summer, and I just wanted some insight on it from you guys. It's called liberal arts mathematics and it fulfills IGETC and is a level 100 class, but I'm wondering whether UC's will look at it and think I should've taken a harder math class. My math skills are worse than horrible, so I know that ifI took stats or calc I would get a C or worse, so any advice there? I know anthro doesn't really have much to do with math so i'm conflicted.

Also, does anyone know whether colleges look at previous emails you've sent to them in the past, because 16 year old me sounds cringeworthy in a few emails I sent to them a couple years ago. I hope they don't look back when they're looking through applications.

Any advice is appreciated.

If it fulfills IGETC and is UC transferable, then any UC should accept it. What sub field of anthropology are you most interested in? And no, they will not read your emails from years ago lol

cultural anthro! thanks for the quick reply.

Just some advice: Even though statistics is not required, It is used in the field. And it’s actually a prerequisite for some UC’s if you’re doing Biological Anthropology. If you take it, it can only help you. Also, if you are thinking about grad school, avoid the state schools.

Yeah, I’ve heard that before. Ugh, do you think it would look bad if I just stop my math classes with this liberal arts class? I’ve heard stats is quite hard.

Honestly, it depends on what you plan on doing. It’s really up to you. You don’t have to take it if you don’t want to. I’m taking stats right now and it really isn’t that hard. There are a lot of us with high A’s in that class right now.

I hate math too, I suck at it. If I was in your position, I would take the easier math class as long as you are sure that it really fulfills the math area of IGETC. I thought only statistics fills this area?? If what you say is true, I don’t see how any admissions official would think less of you if you are taking class that 100% fulfills the area under their set guidelines.

Pay a tutor if you are horrible at math. Might be expensive, but you’ll get a guaranteed A! That’s what I did =)
