For the foreign language section, I believe IGETC requires 2 years but three is recommended and that if you took foreign language in hs, you don't need it in college? At least that was what i was told by my friend. What if I took chinese in high school but passed with a B and C- in chinese 1 and chinese 2? Would those go onto my college transcript or am I supposed to take foreign language all over again? I want to distinguish any elment which will lessen my chances at transfering to UCLA or USC two years from now. Any response will be greatly appreciated.

you want to "distinguish any element wich will lessen [your] chances at transferring to UCLA or USC?" why? you dont wanna go to these schools? BUt the answer to the question I think your'e asking is yes. Your foreign language requirement will be waived with atleast two years of a foreign language in hs. UC's consider C- as C they don't count the minus.

haha my bad... "I want to make sure im not at the disadvantage when it comes to transfer season when I'm a sophomore."

So you're saying that when UCLA looks at my transcript, they'll see that I got a C in foreign language and the C will also drag my cumulative GPA down? Should I retake these courses during the first two years at mt sac community college so that my GPA won't be affected?

no hs grades do not affect your college gpa however grades at other colleges you went to will. The only thing taken into account from hs is the credit. College is a clean slate man take advantage. So no do not retake these courses double check with a counselor but believe this is a fact.

thats all i needed to hear bro. thanks

i didn't take foreign language at all, but i told adcoms that i came from a foreign background.

whats adcoms??

i forgot to ask... during high school, I received a C- for Chinese 2.. IGETC says that UC's don't take C- so does that mean i have to take 1 year of foreign language at community college? Will the C- be part of the credit or no?

First off I thought that anything above a D is alright? Also if you do indeed need to take a foreign language at a CC, you'll only have to do a single semester of it...

The UC's will never know that you received a C- unless you tell them. Just tell your community college that you took a foreign language in HS, show them your proof, and that's that. UCLA will not ask for your HS transcript if yoou're transfering as a Junior, completed IGETC, etc.
