So, totallly lame thread title, I know, but I had to try to get your attention. Let's see if it works.

Prior to this month, Vassar had never made my college list, simply because I thought it too quirky. Over the last month or so, however, I've realized that I, too, am quirky, and that instead of running from the realization that I am a relatively off-beat individual, I should embrace it. I reaally like Vassar, esp. the Int'l Studies program.

Stats:

SAT I: 2290 - 750 CR, 740 M, 800 W
SAT II: To be taken in October
Grades: 5 As, 6 As in my GCE O'levels and predicted A'levels grades of AA*AA. School transcript mostly As.
I'm an international student from Pakistan.
ECs: I have loads, mainly centred in the Public Speaking, Performing Arts and Journalism areas. e.g. President of the Drama Club, Shortlisted National Debating Team, Paid Freelancer for National Daily and Chief Ed of Literary Magazine.
Volunteer work/Internships: One at an Int'l Law think tank; one at a microfinance NGO enabling the financial independence of women; SMS Education service seeking to help prospective and current college students from rural and illiterate backgrounds improve communications skills.

and now, the four most overused words on this website:

What are my chances? :o :p

thank you everyone who respondss!!

oh, a few more things.

I’m a guy, and I’m not applying for aid.

dadadumdumdadadumdumdadadumdumdumdum.

i honestly think you stand a good chance! just get your SAT IIs and personal statement in order and I’d say you have a fairly good chance of getting in! btw good job on your GCSEs.

thaanksss! are you at vassar?

really great chance. id say as close to certain as possible.

just dont be like current pakistani students at vass and hate all over america while you go to an american school.

sorry bout droneing you though

I’m sure like that about Pakistani students is really going to make this person want to come here.

Haha, technically, it’s not hypocritical because it’s a private American school, and they hate on the government, I presume. But yes, I don’t subscribe to those sort of views absolutely, maybe a little, which is justified, but not in a radical way. Thanks for the chance!

With those A levels & GCSEs why aren’t you applying to Oxbridge?

Ummm…yes, technically it is hypocritical to “hate all over America” if you are choosing to go there for an education. Not good manners, either, for that matter. Of course “hating all over” is different than spirited discussions debating the pros, cons and implications of different policies, cultural characteristics, etc- those are fun :-)

collegemom I will be applying Oxford, LSE, UCL, Kings and Bristol for Law. But I want to apply to the US as well. and yes, spirited discussions are what I engage in. ;)

Parent of a son who graduated from Vassar in '08. I think you have a very good chance of being accepted at Vassar and would probably love it there. My son did (wouldn’t call him quirky however). Best wishes on wherever you end up.

I still don’t understand why, with stats and a resume like those, everyone isn’t saying you have as good or better chance to get in than anyone. What would be BETTER than this young man’s resume, President of Pakistan???

(my kid is a sophomore at Vassar currently, just saying)

Probably because we all know that there are people with better stats who have been rejected. I hosted a prospective student with better test scores than I had, and she didn’t get in. There are so many factors. He has a good chance, but it’s a bit silly to say he’s a shoo-in, isn’t it? Only time will tell.
