ILR freshman question about course selection

I took AP micro in h.s. Assuming I get the score of 4/5, is it worth it to opt out of econ 101?
Or should I retake it b/c its useful, learn a lot out of it, and allow me to keep up with the "pack" if I focus on econ/ business? if I do decide not to take it, what would i take instead?

…bump

I think you can skip intro micro (ECON 1110.) I did AP micro in HS, and I was fine jumping right into intermediate micro (ECON 3130) at Cornell three years later. I’m not an econ/business major, so I hadn’t even been focusing my mind on those things, and I’m definitely not an overly-great student.
I am not sure what you would take instead because I’m not familiar with the econ major requirements. you could probably either take intermediate micro or fulfill some kind of distribution requirement for CAS.

alright, thanks faustarp

Take a calculus course.

@ cayugared2005, why a calculus course?
I also took BC this year, assuming i get the credits, what kind of calculus course?
(I want to minor in operation research and management or engineering management)

if you get the credits for BC, take multivariable.

@ cc102, does it satisfy a requirement for my possible minors? (It might work for me too bc i took multi this year in h.s.

What are the benefits of taking multivariable as an ILRie? if i want to focus in econ in ilr, will there be time in future to concentrate in that area?

Also, I definitely want to minor in either operations research and management or engineering management. Which would be more useful if i want to go do finance or something business related? when should i start taking the required courses and how does one go about choosing courses. I’m still confused.

can you major in these engineering minors even if you are in ILR? looking at this page about engineering minors it is saying they’re supplementing the majors in the college, which I take to mean engineering. [Cornell Engineering : Minors](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/programs/undergraduate-education/minors/index.cfm)

the ilr major doesn’t restrict against this minor. AEM minor is opening to engineers is the only restriction i see. I asked Cayugared2005 a while ago and he said it was okay.

[Cornell Engineering : Minor: Operations Research and Management Science](http://www.engineering.cornell.edu/student-services/academic-advising/engineering-handbook/2009/minor-ore.cfm)

"All undergraduates except those majoring in ORE or ISST. "

If you’re at all interested in doing higher level economics or OR. You need to take linear algebra and multivariate. Plus it’s just spiritually good for your academic soul.

The bigger question is whether you should take 192 (second semester engineering calculus) or 221/222 (the second year of the Arts calculus sequence). My personal preference would be to take 221/222. That’s what I took and I turned out okay.
