AP scores and economics

my AP scores haven't been posted on JTF yet, and they've been out for nearly a month. Is there somebody I can call to ask if Cornell received them?

On another note,

I was assigned to micro economics 110, but because I got a 4 on the AP, I was thinking of placing out. Is the AP test an accurate depiction of the level of difficulty of the course? Since I didn't even get a 5, would I be totally screwing myself over by moving on?

bump..... :-)

It should never hurt to call, just make sure you take in consideration time zone differences.

I've heard that you always want to take the class even if you did take the AP test, because the two things are often completely different. Asking a advisor might be a good solution.

yea that's what I heard too... it's such a waste to take 6 $80 tests and then not even use the credit!

I heard you take them because colleges are impressed if you do :p I'm not entirely sure if they take the scores in account for admission though, you'll have to e-mail them on that one.

um, actually, I've heard to take all the credit you possibly can because the intro classes are fodder and you want to position yourself in the more challenging intermediate classes.

And I looked at the website for the Intermediate Micro class, and the only stuff you would need to know from Intro Micro is basic that I'm sure you mastered if you got a 4 in AP Micro.

That's just my two bits.

how are you skipping intro classes by using ap credit?
i called my college's registrar, and she basically said that aside from my ap english test, nothing counts

It probably is that for classes that count towards your major or field of study, you might not want to skip, but for other subjects, it's up to you.

I'm in ILR, so while economics isn't the focus of the major, it's definately involved. What would you suggest doing?

AP Credit varies by college -- some have limits of 15 credits, some 30, some no limit, and you'd be surprised which limits go with which college. Engineering, for instance, has no limit of AP credit, and allows you to use it for virtually anything -- I fulfilled 4 of 6 liberal arts classes with AP credit, and placed out of intro science/math classes for the most part. For Engineering, take as much as you can because the intro classes are a lot more work/harder than anything else you'll end up taking, lol... but I'm not sure about other colleges.

a lot of my ap credit didn't show up on jtf for awhile, so i don't think it's a problem. also, skip 101/102. if you're really struggling in 313/314, which aren't too hard, then bail down to the intro level, you won't have missed anything you can't handle.

if you are in ILR and can opt out of intro economics please do so!!!

the professors are total jokes...and the course is a weed-out course (unless economics comes naturally to you, the way computer programming comes naturally to some)

ILR majors must take at least 4 economics courses (including intro micro and macro, intro labor econ , and an advanced econ)

i've heard labor econ is a lot easier than the intro micro/macro (can anyone back this up?)

if you are gonna take intro micro or macro...please do attend sections b/c the TA is a genius compared to the professor :D

OK how can we send AP scores to Cornell? Should I call Collegeboard? Should I mail or email to Collegeboard? I'm a freshman ILR student~

Call Collegeboard, or better yet, surf their site on :: College Planning Made Easy | Inside Source for College Admissions Requirements In the AP section, they inform you how to send the scores.

What is JTF? I took some AP tests this year and I have sent my scores to Cornell University. How do I check if they have received my AP scores? Oh and I am in ILR if that makes a difference.

For future reference, how hard are the intro to micro and intro to macro economics classes?

My high school didn't offer those courses.

It's called Just the Facts and is located here: Cornell University Registrar: Student Center (Just the Facts)

intro micro and macro are weed out courses...i'm sure it's possible to do well if you attend all the lectures, and sections and keep up with the problem sets...

make sure you know how to use excel (office in general)

they arent impossible but take these at a comm college instead...

So what exactly does intro to microeconomics consist of? Math? Like a lot of it? Or is it more like analytical concepts combined with some math?

From what I've seen from the courseware online, I dunno if it's totally true, Intro Micro is not calculus based, and so it is mostly analytical combined with simple mathematical formulas.

Oh and also, where exactly in JTF do you see the AP Scores? I see my fin aid, my schedule, etc but nothing to do with AP scores. Perhaps they haven't uploaded mine yet? Or should all scores have been uploaded simutaneously?
