ILR / Hotel degree comparison

I would like to know y'alls opinions in this issue.

What is the more prestigious degree among recruiters, the ILR or the Hotel School program? I noticed that the average wage for ILR grads is 40,000 (quoted on official website) where as the Hotel school average wage (class of '03) is only just above 37,000 dollars... I find this rather strange because I have always thought of the Hotel School as a Wharton equivalent for the hospitality industry firms.

Which program is more competitive in terms of admission? And...(or most interest to me) which program is most ideal for a student who aspires to attain an MBA following his undergraduate eduction?

The ILR degree seems to have a lot of skeptics (but, from what I have found it seems to be a very effective program) - during my application process this year a few people disuaded me from even considering it as an option.

Hotel is more specific in terms of admission; if you don't have experience, you're basically screwed. ILR however doesn't have specific requirements and is a great feeder school for graduate law programs. You can follow ILR up with an MBA, not a problem, but the majority of the people there go on to law school or straight into the job market.
You'll be fine going to either one; I think that the students in the ILR school take a lot of Hotel school classes anyway and vice versa.

so...you think there is non real difference in prestige between the two programs?

If you want busineess, AEM is the way to go but its the most compettive out of all of them to get into....comparing hotel and ilr is a ridiculous comparison..one has to do with labor issues and the other is the hospitality industry...AEM is the most up and coming thing at cornell and if u want business that is where to go...but it is also ridiculously hard to get into..and ILR is the best labor relations school in the country..a lot of my freinds got into harvard law out of there

I agree that comparing Hotel and ILR is crazy. Both are completely different and are very specific in their fields. ILR students don't take alot of Hotel courses (you are only allowed 33 or so credits in the endowed colleges for free). But if you are looking into a MBA or a JD; ILR would a great choice. Just make sure you don't have a problem with reading--alot.

would the hotel school be an ideal preparation for an MBA?
