I am currently in the final stages of submitting my early decision application. However, I am still completely lost in deciding what school to apply to. I am currently planning on the pre-law track, so the 2 obvious schools to apply to would be ILR and A&S. I had originally had intended on applying to ILR, but after going to an ILR information session and speaking to my brother( A current A&S student) I am now considering applying to A&S as the majors within A&S are more in line with my academic interests,BUT, I feel that an ILR degree would be more valuable in the case that I decide not to attend law school, since I would probably be majoring in something not as practical in A&S( such as government). If you could offer me any guidance on what school to apply to it would be greatly appreciated.
I would recommend going to the Cornell website and looking more in-depth at each of the colleges to see which one offers classes that you find more interesting/are more suited for. ILR admissions is really fit-based so if you were to apply there make sure you clearly distinguish why ILR. There is also always the option to transfer internally if you do not like the school that you are enrolled in as a freshman. Hope this helps!
What do you mean by “final stages”? Ideally, you should know which school you want to apply to before the final stages because you have to tailor your application to that school.
IMO, you are over-thinking it. If you didn’t like ILR when you went to the session, you shouldn’t apply there. Don’t worry about being practical. A degree in anything from the Arts & Sciences school is valuable. It’s not like you are choosing between ILR and community college. Besides, if you are not truly passionate about ILR, it will come across in your application and you won’t get in.
I should have been clearer in my OP, I am interested in ILR, I just find some of the majors in A&S to be more interesting. I would have never considered applying to ILR if I was not at all interested in it. Also, what I meant when I said I was in the final stages of filling out my application was that I had completed the common app and written my essays for both schools, as I had planned on applying to both but was not sure on which one I wanted to select as my first choices.
Are they still offering applications for primary and secondary choices? I thought they were stopping that. Anyway, if they are still offering it, please realize that close to zero applicants get into their second choice.
I think what you should do is take a close look at ALL the course requirements for ILR and for CAS. See which ones you can best live with. CAS has a lot of distribution requirements and a language requirement.
