Ya, like the title says, I am a greencard holder, but I’m an Asian at the same time. I know that colleges dont quota by race (or do they?) but is their any disadvantage for being Asian in the admission process?

at top 25 schools, pretty much yea.

Not really, I wouldn't categorize yourself so quickly

another asian american post...sigh........
if you're well qualified, then no u wont be affected
if you're alright, then they MIGHT pick you over a urm
if you're underqualified, ur screwd

Oh God. Go to the "College Search and Selection" forum and find the "Asian" thread.

The short answer is: statistically, yes; personally, no.

Asian applicants are "over-represented" at a relatively small number of high-end schools, e.g., disproportionate numbers apply to Harvard compared to University of Illinois. Their profiles tend to look similar, e.g., high test scores, high grades as do their EC's...very few Asian bagpipe players, equestrians, tuba players compared to violins, golfers, flute players.

Thus, in building a class, students with similar profiles are in effect competing against each other and the net effect is that Asian-heavy profiles will have higher scores/GPA than clumps of profiles that, while they still have decent scores/GPA, emphasize other things.

<-- asian bassoonist (now college marching band tuba player) here =)

kfc4u...good for you. Btw, statistically you have a better shot at the UC's than you do the Ivies...their admissions policies are far more "by the numbers."

Now, how well can you play "Hail to the Hills of Westwood"?

my new year's dream, no more asian threads

oh... never knew this thread existed. I've seen the title "Asian American" post numerous times but never bothered to click on it thinking that its one of those posts asking 'where did u apply?'. Sorry for my laziness :P

bumpppppppppppppp

If you hold a greencard, then you aren't an american citizen. I believe you'd be considered a "resident alien".
