I'm a paranoid rising senior...chance me for Brown ED and others?

Chance me for: Brown (ED), Tufts, BC, BU, Northeastern, URI, and UMass Amherst.

Female
Asian (Indian)
MA
Competitive public high school (sends many to top schools including Ivys)

Cumulative GPA: 93 unweighted (my school doesn't do it out of 4.0)

All Honors and/or AP classes...and this means 3 AP classes total. I know that's a shocker to some of you, but my school doesn't offer very many at all. This won't hurt me, right?

Rank: 16/300...Top 5%

SAT:
CR-540 (yea, i know...)
M- 660
W- 740 with a 12 on the essay
I working very hard to get that total score up to a 2050-2150. I understand that my CR needs a lot of work, but right now I'm getting in the low 600's on practice test things. I'm retaking in Oct and hoping to reach my goal.

ECs Please note that I moved and therefore switched schools after my freshman year. There many seem a slight inconsistency in some activities because of this.

Speech& Debate Team (9th)
-Went to many competitions and won numerous awards even on the state level. Could not continue because it was not available at my new school.

-Serve as a mentor for elementary school kids and help them conduct research at the vernal pool.
PEER Leaders (11th-12th)

-We do various community service and help around the school.

Community Service (about 150+ hours)
-Elks Lodge (over 50 hours)
-Pediatric Doctors Office (about 30 hours)
-Local Hospital (about 30+ hours)
-Various other events including Special Olympics, Soup Kitchens, Church
**
Other Summer Stuff**
-Did some research in a Genetics Lab at URI. Did everything from PCR to Extracting DNA to helping with a primer design. My professor said she would write me a strong letter of rec. Would this help?

-Will be Interning at InCube for a few weeks at the end of this summer. It's a biomedical research company.

-In summer 2006, I went to India and for about 2 weeks and did some community service there. My grandfather lives in a small (rather poor) village, and he also works in a nearby clinic which treats patients from that area. I worked and helped in that clinic, and will be most likely receiving a letter from the government consulate for my services.

I will most likely pursue something in biology or the medical field and like I said, I hope to get that SAT up to a 2050-2150 when I take it in the fall.

Thanks!

I think you know that Brown is a super-reach unless your SATs go up a lot. The middle 50% CR at Brown is 670-760, math 680-770, writing 660-760.
At Tufts, the comparable ranges are 670-740, 670-740, 660-740. At both of these schools, the low 600s on CR would put you in the bottom 25% of the class, and you're not a recruitable athlete or a URM.
I think you need to have a Plan B in case your scores don't go up tremendously--applying to Brown ED may not be the best use of an early application.

If you don't get 2050-2150 your chances would be:

Brown (ED) : Huge Reach
Tufts: Reach
BC: Slight Reach
BU: Match
Northeastern: Match
URI: Safety
UMass Amherst: Safety

...reason for this is because your three way SAT score is deceptive (your Math + CR is killing you)

If you do get 2050-2150 (and improve that Math + CR) your chances would be:

Brown (ED): Slight reach
Tufts: High match/slight reach
BC: Match
BU: Safety
Northeastern: Safety
URI: Safety
UMass Amherst: Safety

Brown is not a slight reach for anyone. With very few exceptions, anybody applying to an Ivy should consider it to be a reach.

I do believe that if she applies ED to Brown with a 2150, it would be considered a slight reach because she stands a better than average chance of getting accepted relative to the applicant pool (in my opinion).

Brown accepts about 14% of applicants. In my opinion, all Ivies and several other schools should be considered reach schools for anyone who doesn't have very unusual credentials.

Well, I just took another practice thing and got a 660 in CR. So as you can see, I am improving. I'm not saying I will get an 800 or anything close to that, but I do know that my score will improve. Last time I had many distractions in the room when taking the SAT, anyway.

Thanks for the feedback so far.....anymore people, please?

bump.......

bump again....please?

Brown (ED)-really big reach right now. You have good ECs and background, as well as a pretty good GPA, but no SAT II scores it looks like, and pretty low SAT scores for Brown. I'd say Math and CR need to get close to 700 for a low reach.

Tufts-slight reach

BU, Northeaster-Match/Safety

BC, URI, UMass Amherst-Safety

Good Luck!

Even with a 1400/1600 its considered a huge reach, because it is Brown, not because of the applicant. Brown takes 14 percent of its applicants from a applicant pool of 22,000 kids. The magnitude of qualified applicants for a small and extermely limited number of spaces makes it a huge reach. Only the kids that can get the attention of the adcom for a little bit stand a chance of being admitted, others just fall into the sea of qualified, and unnoticed applicants....
