I am worried since my freshmen year, I took all regular courses, which also made it not possible for me to take some honors courses sophomore year, is this a challenging course load for upenn or carnegie mellon? If you could leave a list of possible colleges with these stats? Thank you
I aiming for a 2250 on the SAT,
Weighted GPA: 4.35
Unweighted: 3.95
I’ll tell you what I think from my experience. I self-studied AP Human Geography my sophomore year and got a 5. I also took AP Enviro in a classroom setting my junior year and got a 4 on the exam. From what I’ve seen Human Geo isn’t regarded as an important AP; a lot of universities do not even give you credits for it. You can self-study environmental science, but in my opinion, prepping for a SAT subject test and doing well will enhance your application much more than if you self-studied an AP exam. Look into the various subject tests and see which is relevant and comfortable for you.
Your GPA is also very impressive, and I wish you the best of luck!
thank you jackbone for your input, and i will definitely take it into consideration
I think you could easily self-study either AP, since they are known to be the easiest tests. However, you shouldn’t spend too much time self-studying, and should instead focus on keeping up that high GPA and scoring well on the SAT.
A quick Google search would show you that Penn grants no credit for either of those AP courses. Most top tier schools are not impressed with self studying additional AP’s. Your time would be better spent on meaningful ec’s, a job, etc. Also, nobody can give you a list of schools based on a GPA from freshman year without actual test scores and ec’s. What can your family afford?
