I'm applying for NCSSM next year, any advice?

I recently moved to District 6, and I start high school here soon as a freshmen. My classes are band, Math 3 Honors, Spanish 3 Honors, Honors Biology, and PE. I’m going to take Civics/Economics during the summer (because of my transfer).
My grades that I have from my former school (Freshmen semester 1) are straight A’s. My unweighted GPA for that is 3.95.

I play an instrument and I’ve gotten some awards for that, and I haven’t been participating in much science related things. I had to quit them due to my move, but do you think I can still put on my application what i did for 1 semester at my former school?

I’m not very good at the SAT. I’ve seen around that the average applicants get around 1900. Do you think it’s okay if I score a bit below that?

And what’s it like at NCSSM? I’m very new to this state.
Thank you!

hello. i’m pretty sure that you’re fine. ncssm is very holistic based when choosing people, so make sure to include everything you just wrote. it definitely depends on which district you come from. in districts 4 and 9, where are definitely the most competitive, kids typically have sat scores of 2200 +. other districts don’t have to worry as much.

ncssm is pretty interesting. depending on where you come from you may have a hard time adapting, although most students don’t. the environment is very competitive, so its important to choose friends that don’t have the ultra-competitive mindset. the workload isn’t that bad, but procrastination is a major problem at this school. overall you’ll suddenly find yourself among like minded people who want to work hard.

In comparison to most schools, ssm is also very science and math based. you’ll find research opportunities and seminars that focus on science topics that you probably wouldn’t have been able to explore at your old school.
