Hi, I know this is not a college, but I've seen other posts about the school on this website and figured this would be the best place to go. I've heard that the school compares you to the Congressional District (In my case, CD3, If I am correct). Also, I've heard they compare you to your school's average sophomore. So, that's my first question - Which is it?

If they compare you to your school, I'd say I'm in good shape. I'm first in my class with a 4.6 weighted GPA, with the next highest barely being a 4.0 (weighted). I've taken all of Honors courses I can, but sadly my school does not offer many honors classes, and AP is only for 11th-12th graders. As well as my above average GPA, I have many awards. Mainly in science and math areas, as well with ones in Social Studies and English.

I know my school's SAT Average is 1292 (M+CR+W). I'm not sure of my district's.

If anyone knows about where my SAT score should be, I would appreciate a bit of helpful information.

Thank you!

Both. You are competing with other students in your school AND CD. NCSSM takes a limited amount of applicants from each CD. You are ultimately competing with other CD3 kids, but NCSSM will take in account of your school (ex. what courses your school offers, etc.).

The middle range for NCSSM SAT scores is generally 1900-2100. You will need higher if you are from a notoriously competitive CD (ex. CD4) but you can get away with a lower score if you are from a more rural CD. I don’t think that CD3 is one of the more competitive ones, but I don’t know if it’s one of the “easy” ones either. Thus, I’d say to aim for the above range.

Good luck!

I’m also applying from CD3! I’ve heard to aim for at least 100 points higher than your schools average in each section but I’d aim for 1800-1900 and higher since many schools in CD 3 have an average sat score higher than 1292 (like my school, for instance, is 1574 or something). I know someone who got in from my school last year had 1800 something on his SAT.
