I'm deciding whether to go to CSUN and transfer into CSULA for Nursing or CC to any Nursing Program?

Is there a good possibility of me being able to transfer into CSULA fro nursing because I do recognize how competitive the program can be but my counselor is telling me I can. OR would I be better off going to a CC and transferring into any CSU or UC nursing program? Also how long would it take for me to finish my stay at CC if i were to attend there? Or could I go 2 years to csun and transfer into CC for 1 year and then into any nursing program? Please and Thank You!!!

First, what school are you currently attending? Are you a HS applicant or college transfer? Have you finished the nursing school pre-req’s? What is your GPA?

Here is a link for CSULA nursing program: http://www.calstatela.edu/sites/default/files/groups/School%20of%20Nursing/PDF/faq_rn_bsn.pdf

All CSU’s and UC nursing programs are very competitive and many have less than a 5% acceptance rate.
Need more information to help.

I graduated from high school already and as of now, I’m enrolled in CSUN as a Kinesiology Major as its health related. I don’t mind doing whatever it takes to become a nurse, it’s something i really really want to do.

I would finish your Pre-req nursing classes at CSUN unless there a financial constraints and you feel a CC would be better cost wise. I do not understand why you would attend CSUN for 2 years and then a CC before applying to Nursing school? Once you are done with the Pre-req’s, then apply to several of the nursing programs of interest including CSUN, CSULA etc…

Would I have a lower priority as a transfer student from a CSU when compared to a CC transfer student? That’s why I was planning to go to CC and finish the Pre-req’s there as I would think that they have first priority.

From my understanding, you would have priority as a CC transfer to your local in-service area CSU, so would that be CSULA? If so, then it would make sense to attend a CC near CSULA but it many not apply to Nursing school due to impacted status. If not, then if you have a competitive GPA for your nursing pre-req’s at CSUN, then I think you would be fine transferring directly from CSUN.

CSULA is in my local area but CSUN isn’t so if I’m following right it would be more beneficial to go to CC and then CSULA, rather then transferring from CSUN to CSULA?

One other question, what happens if you do not get into Nursing school? Kinesiology is a good backup major so staying at CSUN and finishing your degree could have benefits also. I would actually call the CSULA Nursing school to confirm if local CC applicants are given priority to the Nursing school before going this route.

I was planning to do so and I really have my eyes set on nursing it’s something I want to do no matter what.

Good luck to you.
