I'm freaking out!

Hi everyone I truly need some comforting or someone to just be as honest as possible. I scored 70 percentile for the SSAT I plan on using for SS applications. Now here is where I have been pulling my hair out for the past month. My top choice school has an average of the 90th percentile for the SSAT. I understand it is risky to say “my dream school” or “I must go here” but I seriously feel this way about this school. I am just so worried that I will get rejected for two reasons 1) My lower SSAT or 2) I need financial aid. I just really need someone to be honest with me, talking to my parents is just “god will guide the way.” I have great extracurricular activities and I feel my recs will be great. So here is my question, do you all think that a low SSAT as well as FA will shut out my chances. The school is no PA or PE, but still is competitive. Hope to hear from you all soon!

P.S Sorry for the terrible punctuation I am writing this in a hurry!

A low SSAT and needing FA won’t shut out your chances, but it’s definitely won’t help you. However, if you have great ECs, they might overrule it. How are your grades and interviews?

Good luck!

Mathman first off I need to give you an award! Every time I post I always have a comment from you giving me advice! My grades are strong and I feel fine in that area. Also my interview was amazing! The woman who was interviewing me knew and was very fond of my sister. My interviewer also told one of her students that she needed me to attend the school and that she loved me. I found this info because that student happened to do an outside of school commitment with my sister!

Lol no prob. I shouldn’t get an award for being too addicted to CC. :stuck_out_tongue:

Your interviewer must have loved you! If your grades are strong, you had great essays. strong recs, good interviews, and good ECs, then don’t worry. Your SSAT is only a small part of the process.

If it helps at all, I am an URM and I have a citizenship in an African country, however, I was born in the US. Do these things help at all?

Being a URM definitely helps. I’m not sure about the US/African citizenship thing though. I think the only thing that counts is where you live right now.

Correct me anyone if I’m wrong.

Also, I am sorry if you have no idea about this, but you seem to know your stuff! So I was wondering if you knew anything about taking two languages at high schools. It is looked down upon? Or do people look highly of it?

It is possible to take more than one language, depending on where you go. Probably not freshman year, but as a upperclassman, you end up having less required classes and more space for electives, so it is definitely possible to take more than one language, and is not unusual at all. I know of people who take double science or math courses, as well.

I believe that it’s definitely allowed. I know many BS that offer the choice to take multiple languages, but you should check your school to see if it offers it.

It’s probably not looked down upon. If they do, that’s messed up. Why would you look down on someone who wants to take two languages…

Yes, in the Deerfield Admissions video, there was someone who said that he took three sciences.

It’s definitely not looked down upon. Many people do it, usually a classical and a modern language, but many combinations are possible. In most cases, it will not be possible as a freshman.

The school I am talking about is Noble and Greenough, does this change anything you said earlier?

Do they real have a 90% SSAT average? thats awfully high. I didn’t think there were really more than small handful that were that high
